Early life
Fawad was born into a family of ethnic Pashtuns on 29 November 1981 in Karachi. His father, Afzal Khan worked in a pharmaceutical company. He has two sisters namely, Aliya (his older sister) and Sana (his younger sister). The former is an architect and the latter is a physician by profession. He did his schooling at Lahore Grammar School, Johar Town, Pakistan. Then pursued software engineering at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan.
Personal/Love Life
While Khan was studying at Lahore Grammar School, Johar Town, Pakistan he met Sadaf at the age of 16. After a year he finally proposed and since then they started dating. The couple had a nikah ceremony in Karachi on 12 November 2005.
The couple have three children: two daughters named Elayna Khan and Bia Khan and one son, Aayaan Khan.
Professional life/Career Synopsis
In 2001, Khan made his Television debut in the 2001 sitcom Jutt and Bond in a role of a bumbling spy named Bond with his bandmate, Ahmad Ali Butt. He made his debut in a film titled Khuda Kay Liye, directed by ShoaibMansoor which was released in 2007. For his performance, he got mixed reviews from the critics and the film received positive reviews. With Grossing over Rs 250 million, the film became one of Pakistan’s highest-grossing films. In 2008, he received the Lux Style Award for Best Actor.
Then he made his appearance in the TV series Dil Deke Jayenge. Later that year, he played the role of an engineer in a travel adventure TV series Satrangi, directed by AnjumShahzad. Next In 2010, he appeared in the telefilm Aaj Kuch Na Kaho and played the role of a middle-class boy. In the same year, alongside Sanam Baloch, he starred in Haissam Hussain’s period TV series Dastaan which is based on a novel by Razia Butt. At the Pakistan Media Awards, Khan won the Best Drama Actor award for his performance. In 2011, he played the role of Asghar in Haissam Hussain’s comedy Akbari Asghari, a modern adaptation of Mirat-ul-Uroos.
He starred with Sanam Baloch, Meekal Zulfiqar, and Ayesha Khan in Kuch Pyar KaPagalpan, which was his third collaboration with Hussain.
Later in SarmadKhoosat’s TV serial drama, Humsafar he starred with Mahira Khan, and at the 2012 Lux Style Awards, he won the Best Actor award for his performance. RanikaRajani of The Indian Express praised Humsafar by calling it a “breath of fresh air”.
In Sultana Siddiqui’s family-drama TV series ZindagiGulzar Hai, he played a member of an affluent family (with Sanam Saeed) in the year 2012. His last TV serial was Numm directed by AhsonTalish.
Although soon after the release of Khuda Kay Liye, he was expected to make his Bollywood debut it got delayed due to the unstable political situation between India and Pakistan after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. In 2014, alongside Sonam Kapoor, he made his Bollywood debut in Shashanka Ghosh’s comedy-drama, Khoobsurat. For his role in the film, he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In January 2016 Khan made a cameo appearance in Asim Raza’s coming-of-age film, Ho Mann Jahaan. Next, he made his appearance as a lead in ShakunBatra’s family drama, Kapoor &Sons, along with Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, and Alia Bhatt. The film was praised by the critics and it was a commercial success. At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, this film earned him the Diversity Award and a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 62nd Filmfare Awards. Karan Johar, who was the producer said, “We went to six actors and after six rejections, I told ShakunBatra (director) that we should drop the idea and he started developing another screenplay. Later, in a flash of thought, Fawad came to my mind. I sent him the script, and he loved it and said he would do it.”
Khan appeared in a small role in Karan Johar’s romantic drama, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, with Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the year 2016.
The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) and the Film Producers Guild of India banned Pakistani artists just after the 2016 Uri terror attack, and relations between India and Pakistan deteriorated.
In 2022, with his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Khan made his acting comeback in Ms. Marvel as Hassan, Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel’s great-grandfather.
