Ans – Usage of date palm trees in the Sahara desert –

Ans – Ganga Brahmaputra delta is popularly known as sundarban because of the sundari trees grown over here. The area is reached with the mangrove kind of trees ,named sundari.

1.) Distinguish between the Sahara Desert and the Ladakh desert with respect to location, climate and vegetation.
Ans – Distinction between Sahara and Ladakh desert-
Location- sahara desert is located in the northern part of Africa,where as Ladakh desert is located in the north-eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir.
Climate- Sahara is a hot desert along with hot and dry climate.This place experiences only less than 20cm rainfall. Average temperature of the day time is 43 degree centigrade whereas night here experiences less than 10 degree centigrade temperature. On the other hand Ladakh is cold desert type and experiences very low temperature through out the year. Avarage 8 cm rainfall happens in this place.
Vegetation- because of the high temperature and dry climate only grasses, shrubs, date and cactus grow in the Sahara desert. Trees ,require very small amount of water like Willow grow in the ladakh desert.
2.) Why are the rainforests of the Amazon basin disappearing?
Ans – Rain forests of the Amazon basin is disappearing by increasing population. The area has a high economic value and to get economic benefits people are heading towards the Amazon basin along with setting up camps. Because of this they have to cut the trees.
3.) Why are the rainforests of the Amazon basin disappearing?
Ans – Density of population of the Sahara desert is low because the temperature is very high and dry. Nile is the only source of water over here. The area receives only 20 cm rainfall. Vegetation is almost scanty or nil. Overall things are not favourable for the growth of population.
4.) Differentiate between the Prairies and the Velds.
Ans – Difference between prairies and velds.-
1. North American grasslands are called prairies while south african grass lands are called velds
2. The prairies experiences continental types of climate,means winter is too cold and summer is too hot. On the other hand the velds experience moderate types of climate ,summer is warm but short and winter is long but cool.
3. The only main river of parties is mississipi and it’s tributaries,whereas Limpopo and orange are the main rivers of the veld area.
4. A large part of the land of prairies has turned into an agricultural land but due to the plateau area and infertile soil, no agricultural work could be possible over the veld area.
5.) Why is the Ganga-Brahmaputra region thickly populated?
Ans – Ganga -Bramhaputra region is thickly populated because-
1.) Climate of this place is favourable for setting up dense population. It is hot but humid and experiences heavy rainfall.
2.) Three big rivers such as Indus, Brahmaputra and Ganga are the big reason to setup a grand civilization.
3.) Soil of the plain is very fertile and suitable for growing up rice, wheat and suger cane etc.or high yielding crops.
4.) Employment opportunities are high in this field because the land is rich in agro based industries.
5.) Places like Patna , Allahabad, Varanasi etc. attract people as a pious town.
