Water is the important source for the growth of civilization and when people start growing their civilization around the pond, oasis,river or any water bodies are known as wet point settlement.
2. Explain the term ‘transportation’. Name the various means of transportation.
Ans – Transportation – To move people or goods from one place to another safely and fast ,the thing we require is called transport and the mode of transport is called transportation.
Five types of transportation facilities are available. They are- roadways, airways,water ways, pipelines and Railways.
3. What is the importance of means of communication?
Ans – Importance of means of communication –
- Helps to build up social relationships and unity.
- Helps to share knowledge and ideas in a mass level.
- Helps to build a strong economic base for the country.
4. Give two advantages of electrification of railways.
Ans – Advantages of the electrification of railways –

Ans – Factors responsible for parmanent settlement are-
- Water or water bodies – availability of water is the central mode of attraction for permanent settlement. It helps in agricultural growth, industrialisation and overall economic growth of the because another name of water is life.
- Relief features – plain areas are densely populated than the highlands because they get the facilities of good transportation, favourable weather along with agricultural facilities. Industrialisation too attract people to stay around it and plain areas are much supportive to setup industries.
- Special sites- Few places are famous for its natural beauty and attract people as a tourist spot or by giving employment.

Ans – Advantages of roadways-
- Roadways can provide door to door services.

- It’s a cheaper means of transport , comparing to the others means of transport.

2. modern communication system has brought the whole outer world inside our house. It has helped us to upgrade ourselves mentally and technically.

4. What was the impact of the discovery of fire, wheel and iron on human civilisations?
Ans – It’s a vital step towards setting up civilization or modern civil life. After the invention of fire man had learnt the process of cooking. Beforehand they used to eat raw things like fruits , vegetables and raw meats. To gather food they had to move from place to place. It took too much time to move from one place to another through walking. Invention of wheels made their life faster and easier. Again the invention of iron helped them to make different weapons or instruments, which they used to protect their lives from wild animals or to cultivate lands.

Ans – Computer is a great invention of Man and Science. It has made our lives much easier and faster. It has decreased the mental and physical work of man.
