(I) Understanding the Story
(A) Complete the following statements by filling the blanks with one word only.
(1) The name of the Captain of the Trishna was Captain Kumar.
(2) The Trishna weighed 8000 tons.

(4) The boating incident, where the boat that Vishal and his friends were travelling in developed a leak, happened in Okhla.
(B) Answer the following questions in not more than 30 words.
(1) Where was the Trishna going? Why was it going there?
Answer – The Trishna was on the way to the Philippines. The ship was carrying huge quantity of food for the people of small islands in the South China Sea because that place was affected by a devastating typhoon a few days earlier.
(2) Why was Captain Kumar worried?
Answer – Captain Kumar was worried because the barometer had fallen steeply and it indicated that the weather would become rough soon.
(3) What was the effect of bad weather on the Trishna?
Answer – Some of the cargo of food in the ship was damaged and the gangway broken loose. A steep angle from the gangway had pierced the shipside and water was pouring into the engine room. Thus the Trishna was effected by the bad weather.
(4) What suggestion did Vishal have to offer to his father?
Answer – Vishal suggested his father to tilt the ship to one side for exposing the leak so that they could easily plug the hole to stop water from entering the ship.
(5) How was the Trishna saved?
Answer – The Trishna was saved by Vishal’s idea. Chief Officer and his men made a wooden plug and five people held it in position with all their might and blocked the hole with cement. Thus the Trishna was saved.
(C) In the story ‘A Stormy Adventure’, some situations and actions lead to certain Results. Complete the table given below by writing in appropriate columns the Action or the result that the given situations produced.

Captain Kumar was in a panic situation. He was totally confused and unable to tackle that situation.
He found a ray of hope in the risky suggestion given by Vishal and there was no option left in his hand. So he finally accepted Vishal’s suggestion.

Answer – Yes, I would call Vishal a seaman because though he was frightened in the stormy situation, he made an idea and through the execution of it the ship was saved finally. Thus his courage makes him a real seaman.
