(E) Answer the following questions.
(1) Distinguish between-
(a) autotrophs and heterotrophs

(2) State the difference between biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. Give one example of each.
Answer:- Biodegradable waste is the waste which can be decomposed or can be broken down into simpler substances. Non-biodegradable waste is the waste which cannot be decomposed or cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
Example:- paper is a biodegradable waste and plastic is a non biodegradable waste.
(3) How does decomposition of dead animals turn out to be useful?
Answer:- In the decomposition process decomposers break down the dead and decaying plants and animals into minerals. These minerals get mixed up with the soil and are then again used by soil.
