Answers
1.) Answer the short questions (15×1)
a.) How lightning is formed?
Answer –Positive and negative charges are accumulated in the clouds connects with each other and forms lightning.
b.) How can you make a plastic comb charged?
Answer – We can make a plastic comb charged by rubbing it with a piece of polythene.
c.) If we bring a charged balloon with another charged balloon, what will happen?
Answer –If we bring a charged balloon with another charged balloon, then two balloons will repel each other.
d.) If we bring a charged refill and a charged balloon, what will happen?
Answer –if we bring a charged refill and a charged balloon, both of them will attract each other.
e.) Describe how charges work.
Answer – Charges are two types positive and negative. Same type of charges repel each other while opposite charges attracts each other.
f.) What is the use of electroscope?
Answer – Electroscope is used to detect the if electric current is present or not.
g.) What is earthing?
Answer – Earthing is a process by which charge from charged object is transferred to the Earth.
h.) Name some natural phenomenons.
Answer – Some natural phenomenons are Earthquake, Tsunami, floods, landslides etc.
i.) Which natural phenomenon we can’t predict?
Answer –The natural phenomenon we can’t predict is earthquake.
j.) What is seismic or fault zone?
Answer –Seismic or fault zones are the boundaries of the plates, which is more susceptible to earthquake.
k.) How power of earthquake is measured?
Answer –Power of earthquake is measured by Richter scale.
l.) What is seismograph?
Answer – Instrument which record the waves on the surface of earth caused by the temors is seismograph.
m.) Name some natural disasters can cause through earthquake.
Answer – Some natural disasters can cause through earthquake are landslides, flood, tsunami etc.
2.) Briefly answer the following questions (5×3)
a.) Briefly describe the process by which lightning is formed?
Answer –During the development of a thunderstorm the water droplets move downwards and air current move upwards. This process causes separation of charges. These charges are positive and negative. When there is a large accumulation of charges these charges collides with each other and form lightning.
b.) What are the lightning safety measures?
Answer –The lightning safety measures includes,
- We should not stay outside during thunderstorm.
- Open vehicles, open fields, tall trees are not safe.
- We shouldn’t carry umbrella.
- In a forest we should take shelter under a short tree.
- If we are in a open field we should avoid trees, poles and if there is no shelter we should squat low on the ground.
c.) Describe Earthquake.
Answer –The Earth’s crust consists of plates. When these plates move they produce tremors. These tremors shake the surface of the Earth and cause devastating damage. This natural phenomenon is called earthquake.
Earthquake can cause lots of other natural disasters such as landslides, floods, tsunami etc.
d.) Name the different layers of Earth.
Answer – The different layers of Earth are,
- The outer crust.
- Mantle
- Outer core
- Inner core
e.) How to keep ourselves safe from earthquake?
Answer –The keep ourselves safe from earthquake,
- In home, we should take shelter under a table.
- We should cover our heads to protect it.
- If we are outside, we should stay away from buildings, trees and overhead power lines.
