Answer – Deforestation is the major threat for plants and animals.
b.) What are the types of protected areas?
Answer – The types of protected areas are wildlife sanctuary, national park and biosphere reserve.
c.) Give an example of biosphere reserve.
Answer – Example of a biosphere reserve is Pachmarhi biosphere reserve.
d.) What is flora and fauna?
Answer – Plants found in a particular area is called flora and animals found in a particular is called fauna.
e.) What do you know by endemic species?
Answer –The species which are found exclusively found in a particular area and they cannot be found naturally anywhere else are called endemic species.

Answer – Endangered animals are the animals that are decreasing in number in a rapid level, even they can face extinction also.

a.) Name some threatened wild animals of India.
Answer – Some threatened wild animals of India are black buck, elephant, golden cat, pink headed duck, python, rhinoceros etc.
b.) What is desertification?
Answer – Desertification is the process by which fertile land gets gradually converted into deserts. It mainly caused due to the deforestation. Trees prevent soil erosion, so less trees means soil erosion will be more. This causes the removal of the top layer. Which reveals the underneath hard, rocky layers. Which are less fertile and less humus. This causes the conversation of fertile land to desert.
c.) Mention the causes of deforestation.
Answer – The causes of deforestation includes,
- Occupying land for cultivation.
- Building houses and factories in the place of forrest.
- Making various wooden appliances.
- Using wood as fuel.
- For making papers.
d.) How drought can occur as a result of deforestation?
Answer – Plants uses carbon dioxide for Photosynthesis. Deforestation causes rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because lesser plants will use less carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide traps the heat. Which can lead to the global warming. This effects the water cycle and may reduce the rainfall, leading to drought.
e.) What is species?
Answer – Species is a group of living organism which are capable of producing fertile offspring through reproduction with only members of their own species.Members of same species has same type of characteristics.
f.) Describe about wildlife sanctuary.
Answer – Wildlife sanctuary is one of the protected areas for flora and fauna. Wildlife sanctuary is a reserve forest which provides protection and suitable living habitat to wild animals. Capturing and killing animals is strictly prohibited and it is punishable by law.
However, local people living in the sanctuary are allowed to do activities such as livestock grazing, collecting firewood etc.
g.) What is “Project Tiger”? Give an example.
Answer – Project Tiger is a mission in which the objective is to protect tigers and maintain their population in the county. Project tiger was launched by government of India. Satpura Tiger Reserve comes under project tiger.
h.) Describe ecosystem.
Answer – An ecosystem is an unique system in which animal, plants and microorganisms live together with non-living components of nature such as river, pond, soil etc.
i.) How can we solve deforestation?
Answer – The only answer to deforestation is reforestation. Reforestation is the process of replanting trees to regain the forest that was destroyed due to the deforestation. We should always plant trees as many were cut and also we should plant the same species of trees of the forest.
j.) Importance of recycling of paper.
Answer – Recycling of paper is a very important to save our nature. A total number 17 full grown trees are needed for making 1 ton of paper, so if we recycle paper lots of trees can be saved by it.
The processing of the making paper also needs so many chemicals which can harm the environment. So Recycling it would also reduce the amount of chemicals released by the factories.
