Water Pollution

Water pollution

Pollution can be defined as the disturbance in the normal process of environment due to presence of contaminants, the environment get polluted called as pollution. There are basically 3 types of pollution such as water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution. Here we’re mainly concern with water pollution.

Water pollution can be defined as the water which is not fit to drink. In which contamination is present. The contamination can be of any micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses or fungus or the contamination due to any chemicals or mechanical factors can be there. The water contamination is now a days major problem facing world. There are various major sources of water contamination such as the water released through laboratories, industries, domestic or agricultural water.

Sources of water pollution:

1) Sewage: Sewage it can be termed as the water which is released from industries, domestic and from household work. This type of water may contain pollutants as well as microorganisms. Such kind of sewage is directly dumped into the water bodies such as river, pond etc. It can be harmful to the aquatic life such as fishes, aquatic plants etc.

2) Accidental oil leakage:The most of the times when oil is transporting via ocean, sea, then the accidental oil leakage can occur. Oil can never mixed with water so the uniform layer of oil forms on the surface of water body and this causes decrease in concentration of oxygen in the water. The depletion in concentration of oxygen leads to fish kill condition in water body.

3) Agriculture:The water released from farms, agricultural area is directly release into river, ponds etc and this water contains insecticides, pesticides which can be harmful to living organisms. Under such condition the released water must be treated before dumped into river or any type of water body.

4) Radioactive substances:The substances which are heavy in their action and toxic to environment. The discharge of such radioactive metals into water can spoil the water body and the health of aquatic organisms. Because aquatic organisms cannot tolerate the high range of heavy metals.

The question arises how exactly process of water pollution occurs?

The answer is here. There are various sources of water pollution such as agriculture, industry, household water, toilet water, all the kind of water is dumped into the river, pond, lake therefore due to toxic nature of water, the healthier water present in river, pond and lake it also gets contaminated with micro-organisms. These pathogens causes the human diseases.

Effects of water pollution

1 Destruction of food chain:The main component of food chain is water. Because living organisms need water for proper metabolism. If due to presence of contaminants or toxic material, the water is contaminated or polluted then the aquatic organisms will get affected, some of the animals will intake aquatic animals or fishes and therefore toxic elements will also enter in the animal’s body therefore complete food chain will get contaminated.

2 Disease: The presence of harmful microorganisms or pathogens in the watercauses the variety of water borne disease to humans because the river water is drink b the communities so due to intake of contaminated water, leads to various water borne diseases.
