‘Tissue’ Definition
In biology, a tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to perform a particular function.
Plant Tissue: Definition and types
Plant tissues consist of various types of cells that are similar in nature, yet distinct from animal tissues due to fundamental differences between plant and animal cells. Within plant tissues, there are two main categories: meristematic tissues and permanent tissues
Following are the types of plant tissue:
- Permanent Tissue
Permanent tissue is a type of plant tissue that has completed its growth and differentiation, and cannot undergo further division
- Meristematic Tissue
In plants, meristematic tissues are composed of cells that divide rapidly, making them the primary growing tissues of the plant
Animal Tissue: Definition and types
Animal tissue refers to a group of specialized cells that work together to perform a particular function in an animal’s body. These tissues are crucial for the proper functioning of the body, including providing structural support, protection, facilitating movement, and communication.
Following are the types of animal tissue:
- Epithelial Tissue
Epithelial tissue covers the surface of the body and lines organs, cavities, and glands. It acts as a protective barrier, regulating the exchange of materials between the body and its environment
- Muscle Tissue
Muscular tissue facilitates movement and is present in the heart, skeletal muscles, and smooth muscles of organs. In addition to helpin movement, muscular tissue is responsible for supporting bones and other structures, as well as contributing to peristalsis and parturition.
- Connective Tissue
Connective tissue is responsible for providing structural support and connecting different structures of the body. It includes bones, cartilage, blood, and adipose (fat) tissue. And it also helpsin repairing of the tissues
- Nervous Tissue
Nervous tissue transmits signals throughout the body, enabling communication between different parts of the body and facilitating the coordination of body functions. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves are made up of nervous tissue and play a crucial role in sensory perception, movement, and behaviour.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the tissue functions in human body?
Tissues serve multiple functions within the human body, including the transportation of oxygen, blood, and other vital substances to various organs.
What are the types of Plant tissue?
There are two types of plant tissue i.e. Meristematic tissue and permanent tissue. Where, the meristematic cells divide rapidly and permanent tissue cells do not divide further after complete growth.
