The problem of third world countries Essay : The term ‘Third World Countries’ was coined during the ‘cold war (12 March 1947-26 December 1991) to denote countries that were neither a part of NATO nor with the Eastern Communist Block. The contemporary connotation of the term is the countries which are less developed or developing countries that emerged from colonial rule. The Problems of the Third World Countries are manifold, dynamic and wide-ranging in nature. The problems of the third world countries are as follows.

2.1 Difficulty in accessing basic amenities of life: Food, water, shelter, clothing, education, healthcare and political, social and economic equality are the basic amenities that are guaranteed to the citizens of third-world countries. However, the lack of proper sources and the inability to access these amenities is limited to only a minority of privileged classes of people. The absence of proper laws and regulations, inefficiency in checking the abuse of power, and ineffectiveness of accountability hinder the usage of such amenities by the vast majority of underprivileged citizens. For instance, in a third-world country like India, 21.9 per cent of people live beyond the poverty line, and there are 1.6 million Namibians in Africa who live beyond the poverty line.
This implies that the majority of the people in third-world countries face difficulties in availing the basic amenities of life.
2.2 Overpopulation is a major concern in Third World Countries mostly Asian and African countries like India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Ethiopia, etc. The sheer volume of population results in a steady decline of the standard of living in each of the third-world countries. A highly stratified society is resultant of the vastly populated nations. Population explosion is a contemporary issue in countries like India. The Population Foundation Of India (PFI) Survey indicates that the population of the country in 2022 had steadily increased by 0.68% from 2021.
2.3 Decline in Energy Industries: According to the surveys of UNCTAD approximately 570 million people in third-world countries do not avail an efficient electricity supply at home. The situation is poorer in rural areas where around 458 million people live without electricity. The situation in Third world countries is aggravated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, hospitals couldn’t run without electricity.
2.4 Climate Deterioration: Third World Countries are the most vulnerable to the consequences of climate deterioration due to unchecked emissions of greenhouse gases. Third-world countries face an incongruent problem provided they had emitted only 1.1% of carbon but faced 69% of deaths due to climate change. The carbon footprint of an average person in third-world countries is 23 times less than that of developed countries.
3.0 Conclusion:
Third World Countries are faced with wide-ranging and prolonged challenges that require immediate attention. The causes of these countries not developing consistently in comparison to the other developed nations. Infrastructure needs to be developed and international cooperation is essential for the long-term development of Third World Countries.
