It is an expression of common sense of purpose and identity by a group of people within a particular geographical region that shares a common culture, ideas and language
Communalism:
The democracy is affected by communalism in many ways. Many political parties are organized on communal basis such as the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. Political leaders support communalism in order to secure votes from a communal section during the time of elections. The political parties give importance to communalism while they select candidates for election. A candidate who belongs to the majority community is provided with a ticket to constituency. The voters also vote on communal basis at the time of elections and for this reason communal riots break out in many parts of the country. The representatives also try to protect the interest of their own communities are winning the elections.
