Telanagana State Board Class 9 Biology Chapter 9 Adaptations in Different Ecosystems Solution:
Q1. What do you understand by adaptations in organisms and why do they adapt?
Ans- Adaptation is the way in which organism adjust themselves to diverse and distinct changes in ecosystems. Organisms need to get adapt for better survival in different ways. Organisms adapt or develop for certain period of time in different conditions for better survival are adaptations of organisms.
Q2. With the help of two examples, explain organisms have adapted themselves in the ecosystem?
Ans- e.g.1) Some trees such as mangroves like Avicennia have evolved a curious way to deal with the problems of growing in a wet and salty place. They have evolved to curiosly appearing projections from their roots called Pneumatophores.
E.g.2) Some desert animals like the Side-Winder adder snake crawls sideways with only a small amount of its body pressed against the hot sand. This technique helps to keep itself cool.
Q3. What special adaptations can be seen in the following organisms?
- a) Mangrove trees: These trees have evolved curious way to deal with the problems they are facing. They have evolved way to grow in wet and salty place with their curiously appearing projections from their roots.
- b) Camel: Camel has more adaptations then any other animal. It has a hump which stores the food for long time. The long legs which help the body to be away from hot. Nostrils protects from blowing sand. And long lashes protects eye from sand.
- c) Fish: They have ability to regulate salt absorption which determines the tolerance of fresh water fish for saline water.
Q4. If an animal of euphotic zone have to survive in abyssl zone what adaptations are required to survive there?
Ans- If an animal of euphoric zone have to survive in abyssl zone the following adaptations are required:
- It should be larger and have wide mouth and huge curved teeths.
- There should be no skeleton and have flattened body.
Q5. Marine water fishes drink more water than fresh water fishes. Do you agree. Justify?
Ans- Marine water fishes drink more water than fresh water fishes, yes I agree because marine animals should regulate interaction of freshwater and salt water in their body. Marine animals are also able to take dissolved gases like oxygen from the water needed to release energy from food.
Q7. In this chapter on ecosystem, we had studied about the mangrove ecosystems. In what way it differ from marine ecosystems?
Ans- Marine ecosystems are different from mangrove ecosystems. In mangrove ecosystem the trees have developed curious way to deal with the problems of growing in wet and salty land. In marine ecosystems the animals grow and survive in water. The difference is that the mangrove ecosystems are on land and marine ecosystems are in water.
Q8. How frogs protect themselves from cold and heat?
Ans- Frogs protect themselves from cold and heat by migrating deep layers to the earth. They burrow deep in ground and remain motionless until the conditions are favourable. During this period the rate of metabolic activities slow down and the animal goes into nearly sleepy condition called Hibernation which is also known as winter sleep and Aestivation which is known as summer sleep.
Q9. The Murrel ( korramatta) and rohu are the fishes found in rivers. Will they be able to live in mangrove forest ecosystem? Give reasons for your answer.
Ans- Mangrove ecosystems are of salty and wet lands. In mangrove ecosystems murrel and rohu fishes can’t survive because of salty water. They don’t love in salty land, mangrove ecosystem is in which plants grow in a salty and wet land the fishes can’t survive here.
Q15. Amphibians are wonderful creatures on earth. How do you appreciate the adaptation of amphibians?
Ans- Amphibians are the animals which live in water as well as land. The amphibians and their adaptations are really very adorable. Some seasonal amphibians like frog which protect themselves are the best example of amphibians to appreciate their adaptation. They protect
themselves from extreme hot and cold conditions. They burrow deep in the ground and stay motionless until the conditions are favourable.
Q16. How do you appreciate the processing protection of pebble plants from the enemies?
Ans- Pebble plant is a swollen leaf adapted to desert conditions to minimize water loss and storing water. It is really very appreciating point that this pebble plant saves it from the enemies who eat it. Their appearance like stone is a positive point by which it protects from being eaten by animals or humans.
Q17. Some animals and plants survive only in certain conditions. Nowadays human activities cause damage to these conditions. What do you think about this?
Ans- The human activities now a days can cause damage to some animal adaptations. Human first look at their comfort and the animals can cause damage and it would be hard to survive in the environment which doesn’t suit them. Some animals need more water like small fishes, but some of them use these fishes and play with that. They keep outside it can cause harm and fishes may die, like these activities of human some animals and plants survive only in certain conditions.
