(1.) State reasons why wheat is cultivated in Rabi season only?
Ans. We get hot climate from February onwards. It is suitable for maturing the wheat, grains. Short night duration and suitable temperature are needed for proper flowering in wheat plants. That is the reason wheat is cultivated in the Rabi season only.
(2.) Ramaiah levelled his field. Somaiah’s field has many up and downs. Who will get more crop yeild? Why?
Ans. Ramaiah levelled his field so, he will get more crop.
A leveler is used for leveling the soil, By leveling the soil water and nutrients can be reached to every part of the land. It also helps in sowing seeds and planting.
(3.) What are the advantages of ploughing?
ans. Advantages of ploughing are –
i) Ploughing makes soil loosen and soft.
ii) Ploughing makes soil very smoothen.
iii) It helps in air and water can be transported easily.
(4.) Treating with fungicides before sowing the seed is necessary. Why?
Ans. Treating with fungicides before sowing seeds because
- i) Fungus can effect on the health and the growth of plant.
- ii) Fungus is unwanted which can grow in between the crops.
iii) Seeds are treated with fungicides before sowing to avoid seed borne diseases.
(5.) Why do farmers dry the paddy crop after cutting them from fields?
Ans. Farmers dry the paddy crop after cutting them from fields in order to remove moisture content from paddy to prevent spoilage. When it dries it is not attacked by fungi. By drying paddy crops, it could store crops from damages due to the time period.
(6.) Give some examples of plants that grow after replanting?
Ans. Examples of plants which groe after replanting are –
Rose, Potato, Paddy, Chilies, Onion, tomatoes, Carrots, Peas etc.
It can get faster germinate and also start from the seed such the beans. So it will be more comfortable for cultivate and develop the plants in a well manner.
(7.) Rahim removed weeds in his crop field, but David did not. Guess who get more yield. Why?
Ans. Rahim will get more yeild because he removed weeds from the field.
The weeds compete with the primary crops for nutrients, water and light. Because of these weed plants the prime plants may not grow properly. Hence they should be removed.
We know that weeds are the unwanted plants which harm the main crop. By the removal of weeds in the field there will be no competition for normal crop and hence they groe better.
(8.) What is natural manure? How to prepare it? Give two examples?
Ans. Natural manure is also9 called bio-fertilizer. The fertilizer or manure formed by the decomposition of plants and animals wastes is called bio-fertilizer.
In rural areas farmers dump plant and animal wastes outside the village in an open space. Some bacteria like Azotobacteria and Nitrobacteria decompose it into manure which contain nutrients. This manure when added to the soil, provides nutrients to the plants.
Example – Cow dung and Compost.
(9.) Why do farmers plough their field during summer?
Ans. Farmers ploughing their field during summer because in the summer land becomes dry, so it can be loosen quickly. In summer time soil structure improves due to alternative drying and cooling. In that time the hard crusted upper layer of the soil and deep ploughing increases soil moisture. It helps in multiplication of micro organisms.
(10.) Rajendar cultivated cotton crop in his field. He did not get sufficient yield. Can you guess the reasons?
Ans. Rajendar did not get sufficient yeild because naturally well fertiled field is good for any crops. May be Rajendar meets short fall of rail and less fertility of soil and seed are not well germinated, thats why he didn’t get sufficient yeild.
(11.) Place a fist full of Bengal gram (or any other seeds) seeds in a bowl of water. Do you find some seeds float while others sink?

Ans. Some seeds sink and others float because the float ones have low density than water.

Farmers should use for sowing the sink seeds because they have nutrients, so they will germinate very well.
(12.) I am a plant. I grow in crop fields. Farmers pluck me as soon as they see me. Can you tell who am I?
Ans. I am weed. Weed actually compete with main plant for food, sunlight and water. For this weeds main plants may get insufficient nutrients. So farmers remove it.
(14.) Prepare a flow chart from ploughing to yielding in paddy.

sowing of seeds (good quality) -> Manure applying -> Irrigation -> Weeding -> Crop harvesting -> Storage.
(15.) How do you appreciate the irrigation systems used in the drought prone areas?
Ans. The process of watering crop plants in the field is known as irrigation. The source of water should be at a higher level. So that each and every part of the field gets water.
Irrigation system is appreciated in drought prone areas. Lack of water is reduced by modern methods like sprinkler and drip irrigation.
It is used for conserving water in Agriculture in the areas where water is scarcely available. It provides uniform watering all over the field. This process known as sprinkler irrigation.
Drip irrigation is employed where the availability of water is poor. As the water reaches the plants drop by drop this is called Drip irrigation so this irrigation systems used in the drought prone areas.
(16.) Narendra sprayed over dose of pesticides on his cotton crop. Ramesh says it is a hazard to bio diversity and crop yield.Can you support Ramesh? How?
Ans. Praying high dosages of pesticides can cause plants harm and this is very hazardous to biodiversity and crop yeild. These pesticides are highly dangerous for the environment and other organisms live in the surroundings. These pesticides are also cause water pollution.
(17) Venkatesh observed the irrigation method for paddy field. He wanted to follow the same practice for his Maize crop. What suggestions do you give him.
Ans. At first paddy is Kharif crop. So it requires high quantity of water. But Maize is rabi crop. It doesn’t require plenty of water. The irrigation system what Venkatesh followed in paddy does not suit for maize.
So in the case of maize cultivation irrigation is required at time of sowing in the field. Rather it depends on the soil type and season irrigation is required on 3rd, 4th day. Maize crop is very sensitive to excessive moisture. So regulate irrigation is required in the case of Maize crop.
(18.) Take some paddy grains and soak them in water for one day. Take them into watch glass and sow them in soil. After that observe the radicle and plumule with the help of hand lens and draw the picture of it.
(19) What is the relation between night duration and crop field?
Ans. The relation between night duration and crop field is – flowering of plants also depends upon the duration of night time. In some plants when the night duration is shorten than 12 and half hours the flowering will be more. In some plants night duration is not at all the reason for flowing.
So night duration is a vision light at night whereas crop field is a field in which crops are grown, this gives idea about photoperiodism and vernalisation. In photoperiodism is a process where crops in field grow nicely in night. It’s a development of plants which is related to night duration. Because in day time sun gives light, so there is no need for any lighting.
(20.) In a village all farmers have grown same type of crop. What are the disadvantages of this practice?
Ans. The main disadvantages for this practice is that it is not good for soil is we grow same crops then soil will damage means soil not able to get fertilizers, pesticides and nutrients etc. Some times if some disease and pests attack the field it will spread to whole village.
