Telanagana State Board Class 8 Biology Chapter 7 Different Ecosystems Solution:
(1.) Define an ecosystem. Explain it with a suitable example.
Ans. An ecosystem is the place where interaction between all the living components of life and non living components can be seen.
The living components of the ecosystem is plants, animals, bacteria, which interacts with the non living components such as soil, water etc…
Mangroves are one of the most productive ecosystems on earth, deriving mineral nutrients from trial fresh water and tidal salt waters.
(2.) Explain how diversity of living organisms helps in enriching any ecosystem.
Ans. Diversity of living organism is termed as Bio diversity that means a variety of life put together under one biosphere. This diversity is important for enriching any ecosystems as it necessary for the survival of ecosystem. When variety of organisms are present in any ecosystem it helps in enriching animal life. Biodiversity actually provides productivity of ecosystem where each species, how it might be small or big, plays its own important role.
(3.) What happens when two animals having similar habits share one ecosystem? How could you conserve this type of bio-diversity?
Ans. If two animals having similar habits share one ecosystem then the whole ecosystem will collapse and will be destroyed. Because only stranger and better equipped animal can survive. While the weaker are die or eliminated from the ecosystem.
For example – there is a cat and a dog, if the cat and dog both eat only rats, then the population of rat will be decreased, and lack of rats cat and dog will die.
So we should provide all resourcer in plenty to this type of animals, to conserve this type of diversity.
(4) What is the difference between habitat and ecosystem?
Ans. Habitat is one of the natural environments where animals, plants and other organisms lives.
An ecosystem is the total of all the biotic and abiotic of a environment which interect with each other.
Examples of habitat – tree is the habitat for crow.
Examples of ecosystem – desert ecosystem, pond ecosystem.
(5) Who am I?
I am the base of food chain ______
Ans. Producers.
I depend on plants for food _______
Ans. Primary Consumers.
I break down the remains of dead plants and animals.
Ans. decomposers.
(6.) Which of the following is a producer? and why?
(a) fox (b) fungus (c) hen (d) grass
Ans. Grass is a producer because its a primary source of all the food that we get.
Grass is producer and it can prepare its own food by the process of photosynthesis.
(7) What do you understand by food web?
Describe your own food web with the help of a diagrammatic representation?
Ans. Food web is a network of food chain which established a network of species.
(9) List out producers (Plants, Bushes, Trees). Consumers (herbivores and carnivores) and Decomposers that you observed in your agriculture field or school garden.
Ans. A food chain is always starts with the producers like plants omnivores eat both animals and plants.
Producers – Crops, seeds, trees.
Consumers – Snakes, Crow, rats.
Decomposers – Earthworm, microbes that live in soil.
(10.) In grassland ecosystem, rabbit eats only plants. They eat plants faster than the plants can grow back. What must happen to bring the ecosystem into balance?
Ans. An ecosystems balance is maintained by naturally. But sometimes this balance may be disturbed due to some new species introduction, the sudden death of some species or creating man made problems.
If the carnivore which eats rabbit should come in the ecosystem then the ecosystem balances,
But the thing is this all are natural things. So it should happen also naturally. We should not interfere with it.
(11.) Plant, Tiger, Rabbit, Fox, Eagle
Did you find any connection among the above list of things. If we remove Rabbit from the list what will happen?
Ans. Yes, this is a food chain.
The chain is like –
Grass -> Rabbit -> Tiger or fox or eagle.
If we remove rabbit from it then whole chain will broke down and it will get disturbed, population of some animals will increase and some will decrease, because every one is dependent on each other. Finally the results is that the whole ecosystem would get disbalanced.
(12.) What do you understand by inter-dependency of animals and plants? How do you appreciate?
Ans. Animals depend on plants for their food. We are inter depended on other animals, plants as we take them as our food. We kill them and eat as like animals eat the grass and grass or plants take water from us.
In ecosystem animals and plants depends on each other for their survival needs like food, shelter, protection etc. Plants and tree also provide shelter and protection to different animals like birds, insects etc. So this is wonderful interdependence in nature.
(15.) Construct the food web with the following?
Grass, Plants Grasshopper, Frog, Snake, Eagle, Goat, Fox, Tiger, Wolf, Rabbit
Ans. I) Grass -> Grasshopper -> Frog -> Snake -> Eagle.
Plants -> Goat -> Wolf
Grass -> Rabbit -> Fox.
Plants -> Goat -> Tiger.
