( 1 ) Is it correct to say that girls are naturally weaker than boys are ? Give reasons.
It is absolutely incorrect to say that girls are naturally weaker than boys . We are actually socialized in such a manner where we are taught that there are different gender roles for both men and women. Women are expected to live within the familiar parameters, where they have to bear the responsibility of performing the household chores, taking care of children and in-laws family and they are restricted to work in the public sphere. There is just a biological difference that lies in the bodily structure of men and women and due to this reason the women possesses the capacity to conceive children and breast feed them during the early periods, but this does not signify that women’s sole responsibility lies within the domain of private share and they are also expected to live within the four walls of the house. The household tasks that are assigned to women can easily be performed by men as well . Infact ,they can execute this task in a more efficient manner. These gender roles are in no way natural but instead they are learned and inflicted by the social values. In short, these roles are constructed by the society itself.
( 2 ) List the household jobs you, your brother or sister do?
In our family we are socialized in such a manner where the boys also have to participate in the household tasks. As we know that , it is our house from where gender equality commences. I usually help my mother in the task of cooking and washing the utensils, my brother helps in the task of cleaning and my sister helps in bringing the grocery items from the shop. So, in this way we all have to bear an equal responsibility to execute the household duties. So, if we all participate in the domain of household work , then it becomes easier to carry out the household tasks without much difficulty.
( 3 ) Make a list of ten employed women you know of personally . Get information about their work and earning .
- One of my aunt’s daughter is an assistant teacher of Kendra Vidyalaya school and earns a salary of Rs 65000 per month.
- One of my friend is working as a HR in a multi national company and earns around 30000 rupees per month.
- One of my cousin is a teacher of a government school and earns around 35000 per month.
- My uncle’s daughter is working in a managerial post and earns a salary of Rs 80000 per month.
- One of my friend is working as a journalist and earns around 22000 rupees per month.
- My elder sister is an airhostess and earns a salary of Rs 37000 per month.
- My aunt is a government employee and earns around 50000 rupees per month.
- One of my sister is working as a teacher in a private school and earns around 25000 rupees per month.
( 4 ) If you have an elder women in the family who went to school some twenty years ago, find out their experience of schooling and compare it with that of your own times.
The world has undergone a tremendous transformation due to the impact of globalization and urbanization . In present times, the literacy rate of girls has increased to a considerable extent. Nowadays, the school infrastructure has changed to a great extent , where the students can avail numerous facilities like proper drinking water facilities, improved sanitation facilities than compared to that of the earliertime schooling system. Furthermore, the schools in present times are able to provide a clean and safe environment to the students , which the students of the earlier times were deprived of . Most importantly, the technology had no role to play in the earlier times of schooling system.In earlier days, chalk and blackboard was mainly used for the purpose of teaching but due to technological advancements, the present day students can avail the facilities of smart teaching , where projector and digital boards are used for the purpose of teaching.
( 5 ) Why do you think daughters are not given equal share of the property of the parents ?
Society always holds a biased perception towards the girls and thinks that girls are only meant to do the household chores and remain confined within the private domain. In terms of inheritance of property, the daughters are always deprived of an equal share of their parents property . The parents think that after marriage their daughters will move on to their in-laws family and will take care of them but the sons will take care of their parents in their old age . Due to this reason, the parents denies to give an equal share of property to their daughters. Inspite of implementing equal inheritance right to daughters , most of the daughters are deprived of their parents property. As a result of which, women remains financially dependent on their husbands and does not enjoy any kind of economic independence.
( 6 ) Go to some Self – Help Groups in your area and find out how they help women to gain independence and dignity.
Self – Help Groups plays an important role in providing the women with such a platform which contributes in constructing their unity. SHGs mainly aims at empowering the women and constantly functions for the betterment of their well – being. Here, Government performs a major function in promoting this organizational groups , which are known by the term of Self – Help Groups. The SHG encourages women to participate in this organizational setup , which ultimately enables the women to understand it’s significance in the sphere of empowerment. For the purpose of exploring their inner selves, SHGs contributes in rendering opportunities to the women and this in turn helps in developing their leadership abilities. Empowerment mainly refers to the process in which the women can develop their abilities which will help them to participate in the greater sphere of decision making . In short , it helps them to gain their self confidence and dignity.

There are some people who are heavily influenced by gender roles and believe that men are physically stronger than women. Women are also expected to display passive qualities and they should not be aggressive in nature. They are restricted to work in the public domain and are bound to execute the household chores like cooking , cleaning utensils, washing clothes, taking care of children and in- laws family. These tasks are solely considered as the task of women. Furthermore, women are always perceived as someone’s responsibility, who needs constant support and protection of men. They are not allowed to live their life independently even in their own house. Due to the major influence of gender roles, women are always thought to depict a caring nature . Due to this reason, women are supposed to take care of children. Owing to this reason, the household tasks are considered as the prime responsibility of a women.
