( 1 ) Give two examples that reveal the diversity in your neighborhood.
In our neighborhood , there is a Christian family residing just nearby our house and on every Sunday they visit the catholic church for offering their prayer to god . On other hand, there is also a Muslim family who stays just beside our apartment and on every Friday they visit the mosque for the purpose of reading namaz . In order to offer prayer to the deities , my parents also visits the temple on a daily basis. Inspite of having such diversity, we still interchange presents on important religious occasions . This helps in enhancing our unity in the field of diversity. So, the above points clearly portrays the diversity in our neighborhood.
( 2 ) Prepare a table of similar items of different religions which depict unity .
Though different religions worship different gods but still there exists a common belief that there is only one God.Friday is considered as one of the most auspicious day for the purpose of conducting prayers. One should love their neighbours just like their own selves . There exists a common belief that , if one provides service to human kind then the service to god is automatically granted. In every religion there is s prevalent practice that, one should always clean their body at the time of executing prayers. So, these are some of the similar items of different religions which portrays unity.
( 3 ) How do you say that national sports meet develops unity in diversity ?
In India , there are total twenty statesand each state follow it’s owneating habits , dressing style, cultural heritage and linguistic style .When national sports meet are organized, then it facilitates the participation of different people who comes from various states for the purpose of engaging in different sports. Though they comes fromdifferent state but still they depict a collectively in the sphere of games such as basketball , football , cricket and badminton. Thus, the unity in diversity is clearly shown when people from different parts of the country participates in the national sports meet. In short , though their dressing style, food habits and culture varies from one another but still there exists a unity in the sphere of diversity.
( 4 ) Prepare a list of festivals that are celebrated in your locality. Which of them are shared by members of different regional and religious communities ?
There are several different festivals that are celebrated in my locality like Durga puja, Holi, Kali Puja, Christmas and Eid . Though different festivals are meant for different religious communities but still we all participate in every religious occasions with similar devotion and exuberance. So, it clearly depicts that inspite of followingdifferent religious rituals and practices , people show collectiveness in the realm of celebrating each festival with similarelation and delight. Therefore, this contributes in enhancing integrity in the widefield of diversity.
( 5 ) In what ways does living in India with its rich heritage of diversity add to your life ?
The realm of unity in the wide variety of diversity reflects the primary characteristics of India, which means inspite of having a wide range of variety , there still exists anintegrity. Though people differ on the basis of their caste , creed , linguistic style and religion but still they reside in a collective manner and tries to maintainharmony .Furthermore, when any kind of threatened situation occurs , then the people of India unites collectively to confront it . Moreover, we also have the opportunity to enjoy the rich geographical diversity with the help of a short tour. Therefore, in this manner the rich heritage of diversity contributes in enriching my life in numerous ways. So, I always feel very glad for being a citizen of India.
( 6 ) Collect pictures and contributions of freedom fighters of different regions and prepare a book containing their biographies .
Protti Sree Ramulu was born in the state of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1901. He was not only a revolutionary but also a freedom fighter. He struggled in his entire life for the purpose of upholding two principles such as the principles of Satya , which signifies truth and Ahimsa, on the hand stands for non – violence and Mahatma Gandhi was his role model. With an aim of demandinga distinct state for Andhra Pradesh, he went on a fast for a period of 58 days and in this continuous procedure he had to lose his life. He departed his life on 15 th December in the year 1952. In October 1953 , there was formation of Andhra state.
Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November ,1889 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He belonged from a rich and noble family . He was not only a freedom fighter but also a secular humanist and his father’s name was Motilal Nehru. It was Mahatma Gandhi, from whom he got inspired and decided to participate in the Freedom Movement of India. He not only participated in the Freedom Movement of India but also joined the Quit India Movement. After India attainedIndependence in the year 1947, he was regarded as the first Prime minister of India.
( 7 ) Design a pamphlet giving illustrations that depict the unique feature of India’ s Unity in diversity.
India’s unity in diversity is one of it’s most distinctive characteristics . India is a place where people belong from different linguistic backgrounds. Though people differ on the basis of their caste , creed , linguistic style and religion but still they reside in a collective manner and tries to maintain solidarity . So, this clearly signifies that inspite of having several differences, they still try to maintain a unity in this varied field of diversity. They also have the opportunity to experience the geographical diversity with the help of a short trip. Dueto the availability of numerous non – renewable resources and pleasing weather conditions , many tribal groups have settled in India. Owing to this reason , India is also known as the epitome of the world. Moreover, this concept of unity in diversity has remained prevalent since long period of time .

Do you consider the differences in the above items as obstacles to continue your friendship ? Justify .
The differences in the above items will not act as a hindrance in continuing my friendship. Friendship is one of the purest bond where distinction on the basis of colour, religion , caste and creed does not act as an obstacle.We mainly choose friends on the basis of our individual accord , which means we do not look at the differences that exists on the respect of religion and caste but rather we try to make friends in accordance with the similarity in taste . Therefore, a powerful friendship is built on the ground of benevolence,trust and loyalty .So, if we make friends from different cultures then it will contribute in broadening our frame of mind .
( 10 ) ‘ How does diversity come about ?’ Answer this question based on what you have learnt about the Thar, Sikkim and Pondicherry .
Diversity comes about, when people beside following their own religion and cultures also try to adopt several different things from other ‘s culture. Due to the insufficient rainfall, there was minimal cultivation of crops in Thar desert . As a result of which, grazing was the sole reliability for those people residing there. But in the course of time, people from several different religious backgrounds such as Jains , Shaivas and Bohra Muslims decided to reside in these cities and towns. In a similar manner, many Marwari traders also settled in several different places. There was also establishment of kingdoms in these parts. Therefore, the collective contribution of these people has led to the development of a complex system which is not only used for the purpose of harvesting rain water but it is also used to cultivate desert soil. Due to this reason, Thar desert is considered as one of the most densely populated desert in the entire world .
It is on the boundary between India, Nepal , Bhutan and Tibet, where Sikkim is mainly located. Therefore, this has facilitated people from different areas to reside in this state. There were people from differentethnic groups like Nepalese, Tibetans and Bhutanese. In Sikkim, there were a total of eleven languages that were spoken by them.They maintained a close association with Tibetan Lamas . It was Tibetan Lamas who played an important role in bringing Buddhism to this area. They also contributed in the establishment of numerous beautiful monasteries in Sikkim.
When the freedom movement was going on in India in opposition to the British rule, then numerous freedom fighters such as Subramania Bharti and Aurobindo Ghosh took refuge in the small state of Pondicherry. Aurobindo Ghosh was not only a revolutionary but he was also a significant spiritual master. Aurobindo Ashram was developed with the constant effort of Aurobindo Ghosh and his French disciple. Consequently, with an aim of spreading the message of peace and global coordination , ‘ Auroville ‘ which is also known by the name of international village was established with the support of United Nations. Therefore, Pondicherry not only portrays a place of varied culture but it also reflects the collectiveness in the realm of celebrating the integrity of humanity.
