I.) Answer the following questions.
1.) How did the card of British Airways’ frequent flyer programme trouble the narrator?
Answer: On his trip to England with his family, the narrator remembered about the card of British Airways’ frequent flyer programme at the time of check in. He had put the card in his carry-on bag and the zip of the bag got jammed. He tried to pull it and yanked it but all in vain. He made many attempts but then the zip gave way and the bag flew open. The things from the bag fell down creating a mess.
2.) The narrator’s wife looked at him with an expression of wonder. What might be the reason?
Answer: The narrator gashed his finger on the zip and it made him bleed. He was in pain, it was then his wife looked at him in wonder. She didn’t like his clumsiness and was in shock to see the things on the ground..
3.) The narrator lamented that he had met with many catastrophes in his travel. What were they? Do you think they were real catastrophes?
Answer: Once when the narrator was on an aero plane, he leaned over to tie a shoelace just at the moment someone in the seat ahead of him threw his seat back into full recline, and found himself pinned helplessly in the crash position. It was only by clawing the leg of the man sitting next to him that the narrator managed to get himself freed. Another incident was where he knocked a soft drink onto the lap of a sweet little lady sitting beside him.The flight attendant came and cleaned her up, and brought him a replacement drink, and instantly he knocked it onto the woman again. That was indeed an embarrassing situation for him. Another worst experience he had was when he was writing important thoughts in a notebook, sucking thoughtfully on the end of his pen. Then he had a conversation with an attractive young lady in the next seat. When he went to the lavatory he discovered that the pen had leaked and it made his mouth, chin, teeth and gums blue which had remained for several days. Yes, the catastrophes were real.
4.) How did the narrator free himself from the crash position?
Answer: At one of his journeys, the narrator leaned over to tie his shoelace it was then that someone in the front seat threw his seat back into full recline. This made the narrator in the crash position. To free himself he clawed the leg of the man sitting next to him and came out of that crash position.
5.) Do you think the narrator’s hands were like some cheap prop? If yes, what made you think so?
Answer: The narrator’s hands were not like some cheap prop but the incident of knocking down the drink on the woman sitting next to him made him feel like he had cheap prop. He didn’t meant to do it intentionally but it happened accidentally.
6.) Why did the narrator’s wife say to the children, “Take the lids off the food for Daddy”?
Answer: The narrator’s wife was aware of his clumsiness and knew how he ends up with mess in his every travelling. She said to her children to take the lidsoff the food for daddy because she knew that he would again end up messing with the food and having embarrassed situation.
7.) Did the narrator do all the awkward things intentionally or accidentally? Give your reasons.
Answer: No, he didn’t do things intentionally. It was his nature of getting confused that landed him in trouble.
