Answer the following questions.

1.) What does the poet mean by ‘the head is held high’ ?

Answer: The poet says that where there is no fear, the head is held high. In other words, it means that when one lives life without fear and has confidence; he lives his life with head always high. He is not scared of anyone.

 

2.) Explain what does the poet mean by ‘where knowledge is free’ ?

Answer: The poet believes in the equality. He feels that when knowledge is given to everyone irrespective of the economic status, one gets the confidence. The poet feels that knowledge should be given free and only then one is free in his approach.

 

3.) What are narrow domestic walls ?

Answer: Narrow domestic walls are nothing but the narrow-minded thinking of the people. It also refers to the caste, religion, color, creed, etc. which are made by the people. This wall hinders development and does not allow freedom. It is the narrow-mindedness of the society that hinders the growth.

 

4.) Name any two traits of character the poet wants to inculcate in his countrymen.

Answer: Tireless working and Striving towards the perfection are two traits of character the poet wants to inculcate in his countrymen.

 

5.) What do you understand by ‘clear stream of reason.’

Answer: When one is logical in approach and has practical view towards the world, everything becomes clear. There is no confusion or fear when the mind is clear.

 

6.) What does the poet mean by let my country awake ?

Answer: The poet requests the god to make his countrymen more practical. He urges them to wake up and fight for the things they are deprived of. He asks everyone to be united and break the walls.

 

7.) What is ‘Heaven of freedom’ according to the poet ?

Answer: ‘Heaven of freedom’ is a place that the poet dreams of his motherland. He wishes the land to be free of any deprivation. He sees the ‘heaven of freedom’ as the place where there is no cultural , economic, religious bias and where people are not scared of anything or anyone. The one where there is no fear. The one where people strive towards the perfection and the knowledge is free.

 

8.) How can we get rid of narrow domestic walls ? Express your views.

Answer: Narrow domestic walls are nothing but the narrow-minded thinking that holds the caste, religion, creed, color, etc. Such things do not define any human being. It is because of such walls that many people are deprived from certain things. To get rid of such walls, one has to change their thinking and treat everyone equally. One needs to be practical in approach. One has to consider humanity first then everything else, only by doing this, such walls can be get rid of.
