Answer: The mood highlighted throughout the description is of sadness, gloom and terrible shock. The words that suggest the mood are shattering, trauma, heart-rending, grief-struck, catastrophe, gloomy, damp, etc.
2) Which of the scenes in the text have moved you the most? Why?
Answer: A widow of 40 years old had terrible situation in her life. When flood made her house collapsed, she had to take shelter to a roadside. Five of them didn’t eat or drink for two days and this is something that broke my heart. The woman felt deep sadness for her children suffering in such condition. Her pain and suffering made my heart cry and moved me the most. It is hard to imagine her plight.
3) Who played the key role in the rescue operation of the floods? What steps were taken up by the government?
Answer: The government, the army, the navy and personnel from the Disaster Management Response Force played the most crucial role in the rescue operation of the floods. The government sent relief teams that distributed the emergency relief supplies like food, drinking water and clothing among the flood survivors. The government also organized flood relief distribution camp where victims were for dwelling.
4) “The flood victims were looking on with wide open eyes for some help to meet their needs.” Can you guess their needs?
Answer: The most important and basic needs of the people who suffered from terrible flood were food, drinking water, clothes and shelter.
5) “Help always pays gratitude.” In what way is this statement true in the light of the context?
Answer: The outrage of the flood made many people lose their family and homes. In such situation, the help provided by the government, relief camps’ volunteers, private donors, etc were the only support to the victims. All the victims who were safely taken to a safe place had nothing but gratitude in their hearts.
6) How did the roaring floods disturb the lives of the people of Kurnool?
Answer: The roaring floods had major impact on the lives of the people of Kurnool. The people lost their homes, loved ones and their lives. Not only it affected the human lives but also it destroyed the animals. The roaring floods gave major shock to the people and made them lose their hopes.
7) What relief measures would you suggest for the flood victims?
Answer: Maximum relief camps should be provided at such times with urging help from the non-affected areas. Basic needs should be provided at time.
8) What inspiration can you draw from the last two paragraphs of the lesson?
Answer: A woman with her four children suffered from the flood and survived without food and water to drink. When the relief team took them to the camp, there they were provided with the essential things. Two things that one can inspire from is that her willpower to survive and bear the pain. This shows how strong she was. Second thing is her heartfelt gratitude, this attitude of hers show usthat her approach was positive.

Woman: 28th September is the day which I cannot forget in my life. We had terrible flood in our city and took many lives and hopes. It was a havoc that changed our lives.
NR: That is shocking. So how did you manage at that time?
Woman: The flood was attacked our house with such intensity that we had no choice but to take shelter to a roadside.
NR: And what about the basic things? Did you have those with you?
Woman: It was tough time for us. For two days, my four children and I didn’t eat or drink water. I didn’t have source for basic things.
NR: That must have been really tough for you. How were you rescued then?
Woman: We were thankfully rescued by the relief team and taken to their camp.
NR: What facilities did they provide you?
Woman: The people were humble and helping enough to provide us with water, food, blankets and other needed materials.
NR: Do you have anything to say the relief team?
Woman: It was because of them we were at safe place. I have deep gratitude towards them. I wish them all the good things in life.

II) Prepare a speech/ a talk that you would like to make to convince the donors about the need for raising funds for the cause.
My dear friends, I recently read in the newspaper the havoc cause in Kurnool due to floods. I was completed shocked after reading the plight of the people. The flood took everything away from the people, their homes, families, loved ones. Not only humans but it had major impact on the animals too. Many people and animals lost their lives. There was major loss of crops. In such times what one needs is basic things and a moral support. What we can is that we can come together and help make their lives better. For us humanity comes first and it is our moral responsibility to help those in need. We can form a group and send raise a fund to provide them with the things that are needed the most. So let’s get together and be the helping hands for them.

Answer:
Disaster management has many stages. To begin with it is important evaluate the present and the past events. It can be done with the help of monitor maps. With this, one can estimate the risks relate to life and property. Then providing protective structure is to be carried out. And also providing for warning system aid plays essential part. At the community level, people from various field especially school teachers should be trained and make them part of rescue team. Other people like small builders should be considered for help in such time. At the larger level, informing NGOs, politicians, and government plays important role. At such times, when these things are followed with right sequence, one can handle the situation well.
