I) Answer the following questions.
1) Why do you think the headmaster entered the class with a flushed face and a
hard ominous look?
Answer: Swaminathan and his friends didn’t attend the school the previous day. And they had broken the panes of ventilators of the headmaster’s room.
2) Why did the headmaster send for the peon?
Answer: The headmaster called the peon to tell him what Swaminanthan did last day at the school. The peon told that he saw Swaminanthan broke the panes of the ventilators of the headmaster’s room.
3) “I don’t care for your dirty school.” Why did Swami mutter so?
Answer: For Swami’s mistake the headmaster beat him very hard. Swami requested his headmaster not to beat him as it caused him pain. This made the headmaster beat him four more times. Every pore in Swaminathan’s body burnt with the touch of the cane. A sudden courage in him and he left the school and uttered the above words.

Answer: I felt insulted today. I admit that I made a mistake but do I deserve such punishment? The headmaster not only beat me but the humiliation he caused me cannot be forgotten in my life. I requested him not to beat so hard rather he beat me more. I could not take the insult and made the decision of leaving the school.I thinkI have made a right decision. Though I made a mistake but I was guilty of it. The headmaster should not have beaten so much. It caused me immense pain. I have told the entire thing to my parents and my parents are supportive. They too don’t support such acts. I feel much relaxed now because I didn’t like the headmaster. Now that I have taken the decision of changing the school I can be more free.

When his mother saw him coming with pain on his face, she sensed that something was wrong. She rushed toward him and was shocked to see the painful condition of his son. She saw scars on his shoulders. Her eyes were full of tears. She said, “Oh my dear Son! What happened to you?” Swami hugged his mother and cried in her arms. He said, “Mother, I hate my school and I don’t wish to go to school anymore.” His mother gave him glass of water and asked him sit relaxed. Then she called his father and both of them quietly asked him what the matter was. Then Swami narrated the entire scenario that took place in school. His parents were in deep shock and felt sad on his condition. His father said, “But it was your fault in the first place, so you cannot completely blame the headmaster.” Swami said, “But he beat me very hard and it insulted me. I cannot take this anymore. He does such things with everyone.” His father said,” Are you sure you are going to take admission in other school.” Swami said,” Absolutely. I am firm on this.”
