Speech on Child Labour

INTRODUCTION

Good morning to all ladies and gentlemen. I standing in front of you to deliver a speech on an important topic child labour.

BODY

As we all know unemployment is the great problem in our country. Day by day it is increasing. For survival and fulfilling the basic needs of family, small children has to do work at this age.  The age is for playing, studying and enjoying. Due to responsibilities they have to do work in field such as coal mining, steel industry, factory, shops as a labour.

The main cause of child labour is poverty, social norms, lack of work opportunities, no proper education, migration and disasters. Here, I want to tell you the story of a young boy Saheb (12 yrs old) who live with his family . Saheb live in Firozabad which is famous for bangle-making. He and his family work as a worker in bangle making industry. They had to sacrifice . Saheb wants to become a mechanical engineer. But Saheb is not able to fulfill his dream because of his family conditions and the laws of Firozabad. The laws says that no one has right to do any job instead of bangle making. Also, they cannot run away from the place because the policemen can arrest them and put them into a jail. The system of Firozabad is fully corrupt. Moneylenders, zamindar’s and policeman of Firozabad is fully corrupt. The living conditions of bangle making worker is not so good as they have to  work 12 hours daily  in dark and dingy cells with lack of oxygen, no proper ventilation, roof, door and not good money. All this seems to be very hazardous as they are exposed to harmful light which lose their eye sight at early age and also they have to suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis etc.

Being a responsible citizen, it became our duty to get rid off the country from the problem of child labour. Also, government had passed many laws and act regarding child labour such as Article 24 (Right against exploitation) of Indian constitution clearly states that “No child below the age of fourteen years shall be employed to work”. In 1986, child labour (prohibition and regulation) act was passed to prohibit the engagement of children in certain work. NGOs in India deal with child labour. They had launched many “andolan such as bachpan bachao andolan”, uday foundation, children India foundation.

Child labour is a crime. It is illegal and banned. But there are some places present where child labour is seen. For eg:- sub-Saharan Africa. The punishment for this crime can be a jail for six months to two years or fine between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000. Most of the cases of child labour are due to their parents or relatives of the children belonging from socially backward classes and poor sections of society.

CONCLUSION

Child labour has a bad effect on children such as premature ageing, mal nutrition , depression, not physically and mentally development. It make the life worse and hell.

Don’t ask children to take tool, instead send them to school.
