Essay on Solar Energy: A way ahead for Class 10, 12, Mains Exam (UPSC, PSC, SSC)

Solar Energy: A way ahead Essay : Solar energy is a vast inexhaustible source of energy from the sun and it is considered the future for our upcoming generation. It is an economical alternative for nonrenewable source of energy as it can be replenished. In the recent years solar energy has been an important source of energy due to reliability, ease of generation and low cost.  Hence the demand of solar energy is increasing across the globe. The application of solar energy is an the most reliable way of providing energy in many countries. It has mitigated the disruption and the pollution caused by fossil fuels as these fuels generate a significant amount of greenhouse gases.  The effects caused by the greenhouse gases is detrimental to the health of all living beings.  Therefore, solar energy comes as rescue to prevent pollution around us.

Types of solar energy:

The four types of solar energy are-

Passive solar gain can contribute to a large amount of energy demands of a properly designed building in the heating season. In the UK, passive solar energy contributes 14 per cent of warming to the houses.

Solar thermal absorbs light and transfers the heatto a working fluid that moves the heat to a hot water store or a swimming pool.

Concentrated solar power works in direct sunshine and the heat create by it is enough to run a turbine or generate electricity. In Spain the unity scale projects use concentered solar power for its benefits.

Photovoltaic solar converts unlight directly into electricityand ha application has become very popular on devices such as watches and calculators. It also provides power to such locations that has no access to electricity.

Advantages of solar energy:

The advantages of solar energy are discussed as follows:

  1. It is a renewable source of energy so it can be harnessed in all areas across the globe. It is accessible to anyone as per the needs.
  2. It can be used for diverse purposes and it can used in areas that does not have the electricity grid.
  3. It has low maintenance costs and as there are no moving parts no worry is involved in wearing and tearing off the parts.
  4. Technology in the solar power industry has well advanced due to itsdiverse applications. Developments in the fields of nano physics and quantum will increase the effectiveness of solar panels.

Disadvantages of solar energy:

The initial cost of purchasing a solar system is expensive as it entails paying for inverters, solar panels, wiring batteries and installation.  It is mostly dependent on weather therefore rains can have serious effects on the energy systems. However, thermodynamic panels can be use used for heating waters at night on during winters. Solar energy storage requires large batteries so the cost of storage becomes expensive.

Conclusion:

To conclude, solar energy is the most beneficial source of energy as it is renewable in nature and can be replenished. Compared to fossil fuels, it is does not cause pollution and is considered to be eco-friendly. Considering its advantages, the use of solar energy will increase in the future days.
