Smog in Delhi Essay : Delhi being the capital cities of India is flourished with people from different regions of the country as well as people from other countries either for better education or for better job opportunities. As a result of which Delhi continues to be one of the most populated and most polluted cities in the country.
High rise buildings, lack of trees, highly polluted factories and rise in vehicular traffic has caused smog In Delhi, which makes it very difficult for people to see the roads clearly as well as causing a suffocating atmosphere.
Oxygen levels drop causing rise in carbon dioxide and other poisonous gasses, thus resulting in heavy rise in pollution. During this phase several school, colleges and work places are kept shut as well as factories, in order to bring the pollution levels under control. Movement of vehicular traffic is also kept at halt to avoid further pollution and smog. Until the smog clears most of places in Delhi have to be kept closed.
Smog causes several other damages to the individuals like breathing issues and vision problems. The blurry atmosphere makes it very difficult for public movement.
Major causes of smog are burning of fuel, factory pollutants, burning of forests etc. Smog is a mixture of fog and smoke caused by pollution making it more dangerous to public.
Smog can be reduced by avoiding self driven cars, making use of public transportation. Compulsory use of electric vehicles in regions where the pollution levels are at rise will help reduce pollution and smog. Use of bicycles for short distance movement will again help reduce pollution. Planting of trees in regions where pollution is on rise will also reduce the effect of smog.
Firecrackers used during festivals and other occasions also causes heavy rise in pollution. These can be avoided or banned completely in such areas where smog is on rise. Using renewable sources of energy by installing solar panels at homes, offices and factories will also reduce the need for non-renewable sources of energy.
Education system must incorporate the useful need of planting trees and make children and teens plant trees in their surroundings, which should be part of the education system.
Factories must be provided with specially designed waste treatment plants, in order to avoid the disposal of toxic wastes and chemicals into the sea.
Government of Delhi is taking several measures to reduce pollution and bringing down the effect of smog, by installing smog towers, dust management system, avoiding burning of garbage waste by installing proper waste treatment plants and several locations.
