Selina Concise Class 7 Math Chapter 15 Triangles Exercise 15A Solution
EXERCISE 15A
(1) State, if the triangles are possible with the following angles:
(i) 20° + 70° + 90° = 180°, which is true
(ii) 40° + 130° + 20° = 190°, which is not true
(iii) 60° + 60° + 50° = 170°, which is not true
(iv) 125° + 40° + 15° = 180°, which is true
(2) Let the measure of each angle be x.
Then, x + x + x = 180°
⇒ 3x = 180°
⇒ x = 180°/3
⇒ x = 60°
(3)We know, ∠A +∠B + ∠C = 180°
⇒ 45° + 75° + ∠c = 180°
⇒ ∠c = 180° – 120°
⇒ ∠c = 60°
(4) Let ∠R = x = ∠Q
Then, ∠P + ∠Q + ∠R = 180°
⇒ 60° + x + x = 180°
⇒ 2x = 180° – 60° = 120°
⇒ x = 120°/2 = 60°
Hence, ∠R = 60°
(5) Calculate the unknown marked angles in each figure:
(i) 90° + 30° + x° = 180°
⇒ x° = 180° – 120°
⇒ x° = 60°
(ii) y° + 80° + 20° = 180°
⇒ y° = 180° – 100°
⇒ y° = 80°
(iii) a° + 40° + 90° = 180°
⇒ a° = 180° – 130°
⇒ a° = 50°
(6) Find the value of each angle in the given figures:
(i) 5x + 4x + x = 180°
⇒ 10x = 180°
⇒ x = 180°/10 = 18°
Then, x = 18°
4x = (4 × 18)° = 72°
5x = (5 × 18)° = 90°
(ii) x + 2x + 2x = 180°
⇒ 5x = 180°
⇒ x = 180°/5
⇒ x = 36°
2x = (2 × 36)° = 72°
(7) Find the unknown marked angles in the given figures:
(i) 50° + b° + b° = 180°
⇒ 2b = 180° – 50° = 130°
⇒ b = 130°/2
⇒ b = 65°
(ii) 90° + x° + x° = 180°
⇒ 2x = 180° – 90° = 90°
⇒ x = 90°/2
⇒ x = 45°
(iii) k° + k° + k° = 180°
⇒ 3k = 180°
⇒ k = 180°/3
⇒ k = 60°
(iv) m° – 5° + m° + 5° + 60° = 180°
⇒ 2m° = 180° – 60°
⇒ m = 120°/2
⇒ m = 60°
(8) In the given figure, show that: ∠a = ∠b + ∠c
(i) ∠a = ∠b + ∠c
⇒ ∠a = 60° + 50°
⇒ ∠a = 110°
(ii) ∠a = ∠b + ∠c
⇒ 100° = 55° + ∠c
⇒ ∠c = 100° – 55°
⇒ ∠c = 45°
(iii) ∠a = ∠b + ∠c
⇒ 108° = ∠b + 48°
⇒ ∠b = 108° – 48°
⇒ ∠b = 60°
(9) Let the angles be 4x, 5x and 6x.
Then, 4x + 5x + 6x = 180°
⇒ 15x = 180°
⇒ x = 180°/15
⇒ x = 12°
Hence, 4x = (4 × 12) = 48°
5x = (5 × 120 = 60°
6x = (6 × 12) = 72°
(10) Let the two angles be 5x and 7x.
Then, 5x + 7x+ 60° = 180°
⇒ 12x = 180° – 60° = 120°
⇒ x = 120°/12
⇒ x = 10°
Hence, 5x = (5 × 10) = 50°
7x = (7 × 10) = 70°
(12) Find the unknown marked angles in the given figures.
Exterior angles = sum of its opposite interior angles
(i) x + 30° = 110°
⇒ x = 110° – 30°
⇒ x = 80°
(ii) y° + 60° = 120°
⇒ y = 120° – 60°
⇒ y = 60°
(iii) k° + 35° = 122°
⇒ k = 122° – 35°
⇒ k = 87°
(iv) a° + 73° = 135°
⇒ a = 135° – 73°
⇒ a = 62°
(v) a° + b° = 140°
And, a° + c° = 125°
Then, a + b + a + c = 140° + 125° = 265°
But we know, a + b + c = 180°
Therefore we write,
180° + a° = 265°
⇒ a = 265° – 180°
⇒ a = 85°
Then, a + b = 140°
⇒ b = 140° – 85°
⇒ b = 55°
And, a + c = 120°
⇒ c = 120° – 85°
⇒ c = 35°
(vi) 63° + y = 112°
⇒ y = 112° – 63°
⇒ y = 49°
And, 63° + x + y = 180°
⇒ 63° + 49° + x = 180°
⇒ x = 180° – 112°
⇒ x = 68°
(vii) a + a = 120°
⇒ 2a = 120°
⇒ a = 120°/2
⇒ a = 60°
(viii) 2m + 90° = 140°
⇒ 2m = 140° – 90° = 50°
⇒ m = 50°/2
⇒ m = 25°
4m = (4 × 25) = 100°
(ix) b + b = 105°
⇒ 2b = 105°
⇒ b = 105°/2
⇒ b = 52.5°
And, a + 105° = 180° (linear pair)
⇒ a = 180° – 105°
⇒ a = 75°
