(1) Define Natural and Artificial magnets.

Ans. The ore of magnetic found in nature are called natural magnets.
The magnets that are made by us are called artificial magnets.

(2) Write the use of Magnetic Compass. Define Magnetic and Non magnetic substances.

Ans. Magnetic compass is used to find that the geographic directions at a place because at a place its needle rests in a geographic north-south directions.
The substances that get attracted by a magnet are called magnetic substances. eg – Iron.
The substances that do not get attracted by a magnet are called non-magnetic Substances.

(3) Write down the characteristics and Properties of a magnet.

Ans. Magnet has two characteristics –
(i) When a magnet is suspended freely, it always rests in a specific direction.
(ii) It attracts small pieces of iron.

Properties of magnets are –

(i) Like poles repel and unlike poles attract.
(ii) Poles exist in pairs.

(4) How make Iron needle to a magnet?

Ans. A piece of Iron needle or a bar can be made magnet by the following methods-

(i) By magnetic Induction method.
(ii) By single touch method.
(iii) By double touch method.
(iv) By electrical method.

(5) Define electromagnet and Temporary magnet.

Ans. Generally, a magnet is made by the electrical method then it is called electromagnet.

A magnet which soon loses it magnetic properties is called a temporary magnet. eg- A soft iron bar.

(6) What is Load Stone.

Ans. The first natural magnet was discovered in Magnesia. When it is freely suspended, it always rests in a definite direction, so it was also called Load Stone.

(7) What is Magnetic Induction?

Ans. Magnetic Induction is a process in which a piece of Iron temporarily behaves like a magnet in the presence of another magnet.

(8) Write the use of Magnetic compass.

Ans. Magnetic compass is used by sailors and navigations to find the north south direction.
