(A) Read the following lines from the poem and answer the questions given below. 1. There’s a family nobody likes to meet;

They live, it is said, on Complaining Street

 

(a) Where does the family live?

Answer: The family lives on the complaining street.

 

(b) Why do you think the street is named as ‘Complaining Street’?

Answer: A family lives on the complaining street that always complaints and nobody wants to meet them, so the street is named as ‘Complaining Street.’

 

(2) They growl at that and they growl at this;

Whatever comes, there is something amiss;

 

(a) What does the word ‘growl’ mean here?

Answer: The word ‘growl’ refers to grumbling.

 

(b) Why do they find everything amiss?

Answer: They are not happy with what they have and keep complaining, so they find everything amiss.

 

(3) Nothing goes right with the folks you meet

Down on that gloomy Complaining Street.

 

(a) What is the opinion about the folks you meet down the street?

Answer: The folks down the street are always unhappy and complaining.

Answer: There is a family that lives on the Complaining Street in the city of Never-Are-Satisfied. The family’s name is The Grumble Family. They always keep complaining about everything in the life. They are discontented people with negative attitude toward everything. They never meet or talk to other people. They complaint about every single thing in their life. From summer to winter, they don’t stop complaining. They don’t find joy in anything. When they don’t have anything to grumble about, they would growl that they have nothing to grumble about. They are so negative that whoever stays a bit longer with them become like them. Their attitude is pessimistic in life.

 

(2) If you were to live in the Complaining Street, how would you deal with the people who grumble?

Answer: If I were to live in the Complaining Street, I will try not to be like the other people who grumble. I will try to find positive side from everything in life. I will try my level best to make people optimistic in their life. I will tell about good things of life to the people who grumble. I will try to change their perspective toward life and make them see the bright side of the life. I will tell them how blessed we are to have basic things in our life and how we should enjoy little joys of life.

 

(3) From the poem ‘The Grumble Family’ what kind of behaviour does the poet want the readers to possess?

Answer: From the poem ‘The Grumble Family’ the poet wants the readers to possess optimistic attitude in life. There are people who always have something to feel sad about, but we should not take their negative qualities. We should always find positivity in life and learn to face each situation with smile. The poet wants us to be faithful in good things stop complaining. He wants us lead a life with positivity and happiness. We should always be thankful for what we have in life.
