1.) Attempt an account of slavery in Rome.

Answer: Romans enslaved prisoners of war hence Romans were having a good amount of labour force for the rich people. Landlords were buying slave cheaply and using them to cultivate land. Slave population increase by 1st century BCE, the population of slave was around 2 million and total strength of free population was 3.25 million. Slave population included the abandoned children of poor peasants.

2.) Highlight the main contribution of Constantine.

Answer: It was the time when Jesus was crucified and after that St. paul started to spread the Christian doctrine. Christians didn’t respected by the Romans here Constantine who was one of the Roma emperor became Christian and this religion became official religion.

3.) What do you know of the Carthaginian leader Hannibal?

Answer: Hannibal was a general sent by Carthage to fight with Romans. He defeated Roman army and gain control over great part of Italy desert. Roman army led by Fabius. Fabius didn’t gave up, in the next battle of Zama he defeated Hannibal. Hannibal ended his life by poisoning himself.

Answer: The main reasons of the prosperity of Han Empire were innovations. From the north, artisans and herders of rival barbarian dynasties came up with new techniques and innovative methods like building bridges and mountain roads, use of saddle and stirrup, sea faring etc.

1.) Discuss the rise and growth of Athens, pointing out its glorious legacy.

Answer: People from lower class pressurised for the change in the government. There was tyranny political system where only one person hold all power and there was oligarchy where few people of the society or class hold all power and this scenario was needed to change. The change came up with “democracy”. The law making power is vested in an assembly; it was open to all freemen. Many people chose judges and the lower officials. Thus the traditional arrangement is disturbed. Many rich people took stand against and changed it in Greece but Athens was the place where democracy didn’t replaced with anything else. This was the big change that cause to rise and growth of Athens.

2.) Write about India’s position during classical position.

Answer: At the last days of the Roman Republic when Julius Caesar was alive, the Kushan empire was ruling over India. The Kushan Empire sent an embassy to Augustus Caesar who succeeded Julius. In the age of Sangam eight Anthologies (Ettuthogai) and Ten Idylls (Pathupattu) were compiled in the duration of first three centuries of common era, it was composed during this period. Sangam literature considered first secular literature of India. In the period of 4th and 5th AD it is found that teakwood, pepper, pearls, ivory, brocades and precious stones were expoted to Egypt, Babylonia, Greece and Rome. Malabar Coast was used to export these goods.
