Answer: The Egyptians excelled in the art and architecture and it is visible through the Great pyramids like Giza pyramid. Egyptian architecture the Great Sphinx of Giza, it is a limestone image of a lion with a human head. The Great Sphinx is seventy three metres long and twenty metres tall.

Answer: Ziggurats were the temple in the fortified Sumerian cities which controlled by the priests. The rulers were performing the role of the chief priest. There was a social hierarchy among them and the rulers and priests were at the top. Merchants, scribes, artisans were at lower level. Temple was a storehouse at the time. All commodities including tax was kept in the temple.

Answer: The Hammurabi’s law code is carved on a stone which makes it important cause the carving on the stone means Hammurabi receiving the code from the Sun God Shamash. In the Hammurabi’s law code of law there was 282 provisions related to family rights, trade, slavery, taxes and wages. This law book was compilation of old laws. Old laws were based on the retributive principles like ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’.

1.) Define the terms Hieroglyphics and Cuneiform with their main features.

Answer: Hieroglyphic was the form of writing in the Egyptians. This language was used on the seals and other objects. This language was pictogram based language, developed around 3000 BCE. Hieroglyphic writing shows that the Egyptians were skilled in handling symbols.

Cuneiform writing system was developed by Sumerians. In this system of writing the shape of the letter forms wedge shape hence it is known as cuneiform. Cuneiform writing system developed in 3000 BCE and known as one of the earliest script of the world. The Assyrian rulers Ashurbanipal maintained library of cuneiform records. This writing system is used for commercial transactions and writing letters and stories. Tablets made from clay were existed in Sumerian civilisation which contained loads of information.

2.) To what extent is the Chinese influence reflected in the fields of philosophy and literature.

Answer: There were many Chinese poets and philosophers who contributed in the development of the civilization. Some of them were Lao Tze, Confucius, Mencius, Mo ti (Mot Zu) and Tao Chien. Sun-Tzu was a military strategist, wrote book Art of War. One of the famous book on Medicine ‘Canon of Medicine’ is written by the Yellow Emperor.

3.) Write about the hidden treasure of Indus civilisation.

Answer: Indus civilisation covered over 1.5 million square kilometres in India and Pakistan. Many things from Harappan culture were found in this area mainly in the regions of Pakistan, Gujrat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. With the big structure like the Great bath many small things like evidence of pottery, tools and weapons made by metal are found. Gold ornaments, stoneware, shell bangles were also found. There is a possibility of hidden treasure like gold coins or gold ornaments etc.
