a) Metre scale

b) Plastic ruler

c) Metre rod

d) Measuring tape

Answer: Measuring tape

Solution: Measuring tape is the most suitable one among others as Plastic ruler and metre scale are used for Measuring small length and using metre rod vertically along the height of the tree would be difficult.

a) 70 cm

b) 7 cm

c) 700 cm

d) 7000 cm

Answer: 700cm

Solution: 1m = 100cm

So, 7×100= 700cm

3.) Quantity that can be measured is Called ____

a) Physical quantity

b) Measurement

c) Unit

d) Motion

Answer: Unit

4.) Choose the correct one

a) Km > mm > cm > m

b) Km > mm > m > cm

c) Km > m > cm > mm

d) Km > cm > m > mm

Answer: km > m > cm > mm

Solution: 10mm = 1cm, 100cm = 1m , 1000m= 1km

5.) While measuring the length of an Object using a ruler, the position of Your eye should be

a) Left side of the point.

b) Vertically above the point where The measurement is to be taken.

c) Right side of the point

d) Any where according to one’s Convenience.

Answer: Vertically above the point where The measurement is to be taken.

Solution: It is necessary to be vertically above the point where the measurement is to be taken as Measuring from either right or left side of the point will lead to more errors.

7.)  ___Length_______ is a fundamental Quantity.

8.)  ___Odometer_______ shows the distance Covered by an automobile

9.)  A tailor uses ____tape________ to take Measurements to stitch the cloth.

10.)  Liquids are measured with this Physical quantity.

Answer: Litre

IX Answer briefly.

1.) Define measurement.

Answer: The process of comparison between an unknown quantity and a known or standard quantity is called Measurement.

2.) Define mass.

Answer: When the amount of substance present in an object is measured , it is called mass.

3.) The distance between two places is 43.65 km. Convert it into metre and cm.

Answer: 1km = 1000m , 1m = 100cm

43.65× 1000= 43650m , 43650× 100= 4365000cm.

4.) What are the rules to be followed to Make accurate measurement with scale?

Answer: a) It is important that the object that is to be measured should be kept parallel to the scale.

b) In Measuring an object, always take ‘0’ of the scale as the starting point.

X.)  Solve the following.

1.) The distance between your school and Your house is 2250 m. Express this Distance in kilometre.

Answer: 1000m = 1km

2250÷1000m = 2.250km

2.) While measuring the length of a Sharpened pencil, reading of the scale At one end is 2.0 cm and at the other End is 12.1 cm. What is the length of the Pencil?

Answer: Point A = 2cm, point B= 12.1cm

Length of the pencil = 12.1 – 2 = 10.1cm.

XI.) Answer in detail.

1.) Explain two methods that you can use To measure the length of a curved line.

Answer: a) Measuring with the help of a string. Here, a string is placed along the curved line and then the starting and end points of the curved line are marked on the string. Now the string is stretched along the length of a meter scale and the distance between the two points on the string are measured.

b) another method is by using a divider. After a curved line has been drawn, AB , on the paper. With the help of a ruler ,the legs of the divider are separated 0.5cm or 1cm. Place one end of the divider at one point, A and then mark the position of the other end. Repeating this along the curved line and equally dividing the line into segments. Using a scale, the remaining parts of the line can be measured. And finally the total number of segments are counted.
