1.) Trace the circumstances that led to the rise of Hitler in Germany.
Answer: It started in 1919, seven men came together at Munich and started the National Socialist German Worker’s Party, this party is also known as Nazi Party. Adolf Hitler was one of those seven men. He had served in the Bavarian army in World War I. Adolf Hitler was amazing speaker. In 1923, he tried to capture power in Bavaria. He reached behind the bars due to the National Revolution on the outskirts of Munich launched by him. In the prison he wrote Mein kampf, it means my struggle, it was an autobiography of Adolf Hitler. He has noted his political ideas in the book. The Communist Party got 60,00,000 votes which grabbed attention of everyone. Capitalists and property owners leaned in support of fascism. Hitler used this opportunity to capture the powers.
2.) Attempt a narrative account of how the process of decolonization happened in India during the inter-war period (1919-39).
Answer: The process of decolonization started with the Swadeshi movement in 1905. The government of India act implemented dyarchy in the provinces in 1919 and elected provincial assemblies and Indian ministers are allowed to hold certain portfolios in the Legislature but Indian National Congress rejected dyarchy and decided to boycott the legislature and in 1930 the Indian National Congress rose as mass militant movement. The Government of India Act of 1935 made the British to appease the Indian nationalists and provided great power to the local governments. After that British introduced direct elections and the congress won in most of the provinces in 1937. The decolonisation process was very clear by the Montague declaration stating and increasing association of Indians in every branch of the administration and slowly self-government in is established.
3.) Describe the rise and growth of nationalist politics in South Africa.
Answer: South Africa having two major parties the Unionist party and the South Africa party. The Unionist party was party of Britishers and the South Africa Party was having members of Afrikaners. The first Prime Minister of South Africa was from the South Africa party. His name was Botha. He ruled South Afrika with the cooperation with the British but National Party formed by militant section of the South Africa party formed National Party under Herzog. Herzog wanted a twin policy of supremacy of whites over Blacks and Afrikaners over British. In the elections held in 1920, the National Party won forty-four seats and the South Africa party led by Smuts won forty-one seats. British dominated Unionist Party merged with the South Africa party and this gave Smuts a majority over the militant Afrikaner and National Party.
