(2) Fill in the blanks:

(a) 54637 + 0 = 54637

(b) 21739 + 4103 = 4103 + 21739

(c) 85619 + 0 = 85619

(d) 16307 + 65980 = 65980 + 16307

(3) In an election for a particular seat there were 4 candidates. They received votes as follows:

First: 42059; Second: 31847; Third: 9835; Fourth: 2,801.

If 538 votes were found invalid, how many votes, in all were polled?

Solution: [(42059 +31847 + 9835 + 2801) – 538]

= (86542 – 538)= 86004

Hence, 86004 votes were polled.

(4) For a primary health center, Rs 28680 were given in the first year. In the second year, Rs 5850 more than the first year were given. In the third year, Rs 4700 more than the amount given in the second year were given. What was the total amount given to the center in three years?

Solution: First year = Rs 28680

Second year = 28680 + 5850 = Rs 34530

Third year = 34530 + 4700 = Rs 39230

So, the total amount in three years = (28680 + 34530 + 39230) = Rs 102440

(5) Find the difference between:

(6) What must be added to 16,003 to make it equal to 235,000?

Solution: 235000 – 16003 = 218997

Hence, 218997 added to make that equal to 235000.

(7) Fill in the blanks:

(a) 58,437 – 0 = 58,437

(b) 30,029 – 0 = 30,029

(c) 23,568 – 0 = 23,568

(8) The population of a town is 89,762. How much is it less than one lakh?

Solution: 100000 – 89762 = 10238

Hence, 10238 id less than one lakh.

(9) Geeta deposited Rs 30,000 in her bank account. Later, she withdrew Rs 18,237 from it. How much money is there in her account now?

Solution: (30,000 – 18,237) = Rs 11763

Hence, 11763 rupees are in Geeta’s account.

(10) A sweet shop received the following amounts of money on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Rs 1507.36, Rs 2003.58, Rs 1923.91, Rs 2019.87. What was total sale of the shop for those four days?

Solution: (1507.36 + 2003.58 + 1923.91 + 2019.87) = Rs 7454.72

Hence, t he total sale of the shop for those four days was Rs 7454.72.
