Activity Sheet – 86
Solve the following word problems:
(1) Aditya sent two parcels by courier. One weighed 2 kg 785 g and the other weighed 6 kg 845 g. Find the combined weight of the two parcels.
Solution:
kg | g |
2 | 785 |
+ 6 | 845 |
9 | 630 |
Hence, the combined weight of the two parcels is 9 kg 630 g.
(2) Rajan purchased a box of 25 kg of mangoes. If 1 kg 685 g mangoes were found rotten and 12 kg 765 g were consumed at a get-together, what weight of mangoes was left behind?
Solution: The required weight of mangoes left behind,
= 25 kg – (1 kg 685 g + 12 kg 765 g)
= 25 kg – 14 kg 450 g
= 10 kg 550 g
(3) Sidhant is 5 kg 289 g heavier than Ravi who weighs 38 kg 845 g. What is Sidhant’s weight?
Solution: Weight of Sidhant = (38 kg 845 g + 5 kg 289 g) = 44 kg 134 g
kg | g |
38 | 845 |
+ 5 | 289 |
44 | 134 |
(4) A car has 25 l 760 ml of petrol. In a journey, if 12 l 895 ml is used up, how much petrol is left in the car?
Solution: The left petrol of the car = (25 l 760 ml – 12 l 895 ml) = 12 l 865 ml
l | ml |
25 | 760 |
– 12 | 895 |
12 | 865 |

– 28 | 675 |
163 | 755 |
