RS Aggarwal And Veena Aggarwal Class 9 Math First Chapter Number System Exercise 1C Solution
EXERCISE 14
(1) Irrational numbers: A number which can neither be expressed as a terminating decimal nor as a repeating decimal, is called irrational number.
Differ between rational and irrational number: π is a number which exact value is not 22/7.
In fact π has a value which is nonterminating and nonrepeating. So, π is an irrational number, while 22/7 is rational number.
(2)
(viii) 1.232332333…… has non-terminating and non-recurring decimal expansion. So, it is an irrational number.
(ix) 3.040040004…. has non-terminating and non-recurring expansion. So, it is an irrational number.
(x) 2.3565656…. has non-terminating and recurring expansion. So, it is a rational number.
(xi) 6.834834…. has non-terminating and recurring expansion. So, it is a rational number.
(12) Let a = 0.2020020002…. and b = 0.2121121112…. Consider the numbers
C = 0.22 = 21/100 = 21/100 and d = 22/100 = 11/50
Clearly, c and d are rational numbers such that a<c<d<b.
(13) Two irrational numbers between 0.16 and 0.17 are: 0.161116111161111111…… and 0.1686686668666.
(14) (i) True
(ii) False
(iii) True
(iv) False
(v) True
(vi) False
(vii) False
(viii) True
(ix) True.
