Classification of American rice

Aruna Asif Ali was know as the ‘Grand Old Lady’ during Independence movement. She was born in orthodox Hindu Bengali family in 1909 in Kalka. She was a bold woman who broke convention by getting married at the age of 19 to Mr. Asif Ali. They both took active participation in the freedom struggle. She took part in salt Satyagrah under the leadership of Gandhiji. She addressed public meetings and led processions. She was sentences to one year imprisonment due her active participation. But she didn’t give up the cause and went to jail again. Later she became the editor of Inquilab. After the Independence she turned social worker. She believed in fighting in the right for women. She received Nehru Award for International Understanding in 1992. She took her last breath in 1996. She was honored with Bharat Ratna posthumously.

 

B.) Make use of the information given below and write a paragraph of 10-12 lines on the tribals of Orissa.

Answer:  There are many tribal groups in Orissa. They live in remote places. One such group lives in forests of Kalahandi which is a backward one. People there have dark skin and black hair. Women wear bright colored saris and tuck flowers in their hair. Men wear loin cloth with no shirts. They were ruled by kings before the Independence and still believe that India is ruled by kings. People are illiterate and there are no schools. There are no modern means of transportation and there are no motorable roads. They are completely cut off from the world and they have no idea of currency notes. They still have barter system. People live in groups and have common property .They believe that the property is common like air and sunshine everyone has equal right to have them. People treat diseases by the practice of black magic like using herbs and setting bones by rubbing oils. There should be good government schemes to educate these people to bring them to the main stream.

 

A.) Write a paragraph on the Golden Temple with the help of the hints given:

Amritsar is also called as guru-ki-nagari which is famous for the Golden Temple. The temple is situated in the city surrounded by the narrow lanes. It has gold shrines, built in the middle of the sarover which shines at sunrise and sunset. It was built by Guru Arjna Dev Ji. It is an experience when Granth Sahib brought out from the Akal Takhat which was amidst chanting of hymns and blowing of bugles. The Aal Takhat, which is facing Harmandair Sahib was built by Guru Hargobind Ji. It was used for holding court ever since it was built. The complex has a museum which has interesting things like rare paintings, books, shashtras, etc. These things describe the lives of the gurus. There is also big bazaars near DarshaniDeori which sell gutaks, karas and other articles. Home-made papads, Varian, chura-bangles and also dry fruits are sold at near-by shops. The main attraction for the tourists is the mouth-watering sweets and lassi. There a number of hotels and guest houses for tourists to stay. There also a sarai for pilgrims which is worth to visit.

 

B.) With the help of the information given, write a paragraph of about 10-12 lines about Canada the largest country of the world:

Canada is the largest country of the world. It has total area of 9,976,139 km. It has population of 32,000,000. Its capital is Ottawa. Its currency is Canadian dollar. Major languages spoken here is English and French. The climate here in winter is very cold in some regions. Average temperature in Ottava ranges from -15 C to -6 C in January and 15 – 26 Cin July. Main products here are fruit, vegetable, livestock, tobacco, copper, zinc, iron, salt and oil and natural gas. Here major industries are agriculture, forestry, food- processing, transport, chemicals, oil and gas refining and cement. It is main expert in the field of vehicles, machinery, foodstuffs, natural gas, meat, coal and timber.

Mr. Ramanathan and his family were out of town to attend a wedding. No one was at home hence the house was locked. Thief broke into house and stole Mr.Ramanathan’s wife’s jewellery, valuables and money. Neighbours felt something fishy as they saw the lights were on. They informed the police. The police came along with a dog and found thief’s glove. Dog sniffed the thief’s scent. The policemen took fingerprints and the dog took the policemen to the thief’s house. The thief admitted his crime and the burglary case was solved in two days. Policemen were rewarded.

 

B.) Suppose you were in Mumbai when many people of the city were marooned because of the heavy rainfall in July. Write a paragraph of about 10-12 lines about that incident with the help of outline.

Answer:

On July 26, I was busy shopping in a famous crowded market although it was raining. Gradually it started raining heavily and it became impossible to move away. I took shelter in a nearby shop. Soon, the place got flooded and the water started entering the shops. Articles started floating. The shopkeepers tried their best to retrieve their valuable articles but all in vain. The entire area was submerged. People stranded on roads and the vehicles stopped. People stayed in parked cars. Others took shelter in house-shops. It was most risky for the school children. Suddenly it started raining like hell. It rained like cats and dogs. People ran for safety. The water level was about 6-7 feet. People moved to the first floor of their shops and houses. In no time the army swung into the action and started their rescue mission. Volunteers started helping with food and water. The operation was carried out f or 24 hours. I cannot that horrifying experience which made me sleepless for many days.

 

C.) Write a paragraph on ‘Lohri’ based on the hints provided:
Answer:

Lohri is a festival of fun and frolic. It is celebrated every year in the month of January which is the peak of winter. It is related to folklore of Dula and Bhatti. People build bonfires near their homes or mohallas. Special arrangements are made for the celebration of a newly married son. Also, it is celebrated on a large scale where a son is born. Some people perform Gidhar or Bhangra to the beats of the drums. Children form groups and go door to door singing just like Christians sing hymns during Christmas in which they collect money-sweets. Lohri is a busy festival where people visit several homes on a single evening.
