NARRATION
Change the following into Indirect Speech:
1.) He says, “My brother likes apples.”
Answer: He says that his brother likes apples.
2.) He says to me, “I do not live here.”
Answer: He tells me he doesn’t live here.
3.) You say to Gagan, “You like English but I like Hindi.”
Answer: You tell Gagan that he likes English, but you like Hindi.
4.) They say to us, “We are not well today.”
Answer: They tell us that they are not well today.
5.) Harpreet said, “I shall talk to you tomorrow.”
Answer: Harpreet said that he would talk to me the next day.
6.) Ram will say, “I have done my work.”

Answer: Mohan will tell her that she can do this thing tonight.

Exercise 2
Change the following into Indirect Speech:
1.) Father said to me,”Mohan was playing while I was reading my newspaper.”

Change the following into Direct Speech:

Ram told Mohan that he had invited three friends to dinner that day. Mohan replied that it was a very good thing. Mohan said further that the guests would come at 7 p.m. Mohan replied that then they would have to buy everything before going to office. Ram suggested that they should go to the supermarket to buy the things required.

Read the following dialogue and report it by filling up the blanks in the paragraph that follows:
The wife told her husband that their servant had run away. The husband asked the wife if there was anything missing. The wife told him that her gold watch was missing. The husband then asked her where she had kept it. She replied that she had kept it on the dressing table as usual. The husband told her he was going to the police to report.

Given below you can see a picture. Complete the following paragraph reporting what happened in the picture:
A customer went to a shopkeeper and asked him to show him a quality hanger. The shopkeeper took out one and told him that the hanger would cost him five rupees. The customer told him to show him a cheaper one as it was costly. The shopkeeper told him to take that nail instead.

Exercise 14
Change the narration
a.) The traveler said, “Can you tell me the way to nearest inn?” “Yes” , said the peasant. “Do you want one in which you can spend the night?” “No”, replied the traveler, “I only want a meal.”
Answer: The traveler asked the peasant if he could tell him the way to the nearest inn. The peasant replied with a yes. He asked the traveler if he wanted one in which he could spend the night. The traveler replied with a no. He said that he only wanted a meal.
b.) He said to me, “Hello, is it you? Come in, take a seat. I have heard of your distress. But why do you look so forlorn? I shall do all I can to help you.”
Answer: He asked me if it was I and then asked me to come in and take a seat. He told me that he had heard of my distress. He asked me why I looked so forlorn. He assured me that he would do all he could to help me.
Exercise 15
You have overheard this conversation between Raghav and Sheela. Write to your sister Madhur reporting the whole in your own words. Give the conversation an interesting unexpected humorous ending.

Dear Madhu,
As I know, you’re very interested in Raghav and his snakes. I thought I’d tell you about a conversation I’ve just heard between him and Sheela.
He told her that he thought one of his snakes had escaped and, as usual , she told him to stop collecting them because they were dangerous (Typical of Sheel! Don’t you think?) She is so scared of them they she cannot even look at them. But Raghav is quite adamant about his strange hobby. And one day, when Sheela was relaxing on a couch, she felt something tingling sensation on her feet. She felt so scared that she ran away thinking that it was a snake. But when she went out of the house, she realized that it was a feather that was moving on the floor .
