Q.5 Very short answer type questions
1. Name any two factors that affect the weather of a place.
Answer:- Sun and wind are the two factors that affect the weather of a place.
2. Define climate.
Answer:- The average of weather conditions of a place for a period of about 25-30 years is called as the climate.
3. What is a sand dune?
Answer:- When the wind stops blowing the sand falls and gets deposited in low hill-like
structures. These are called sand dunes.
4. What is a polar region?
Answer:- The area found between 85°N to 90°N latitude around the poles are called Polar region.
Q.6 Short answer type questions:
1. How does sea breeze occur?
Answer:- During day time, Earth become hotel then water. The air near the surface of
earth gets hot and light. So it rises above whereas the air overseas is called and heavier
than that over land. So it moves down towards land. The cold air that moves from sea
towards land during day time is called sea breeze.
2. Write three adaptations found in aquatic animals.
Answer:- Following are the adaptations found in aquatic animals:-
1. Streamlined body helps them in swimming.
2. Presence of gills to take oxygen from water.
Presence of fins helps in swimming.
3. Body is covered with scales which help them keep moist
3. What is greenhouse effect?
Answer:- Deforestation and burning of fossil fuel increase the percentage of carbon
dioxide in air. Carbon dioxide acts as glass house and absorbs infrared radiation of sunlight and increases the temperature. This is GreenHouse Effect.
4. Write two effects of climate change.
Answer:- Following are the effects of climate change:-
1. Due to global warming snow melt and height of snow caps in decreasing.
2. Many glaciers have melted and melting of glaciers is an alarming bell for polar life.
Q.7 Long answer type questions:
1. How is camel adapted to survive in hot desert? Explain.
Answer:- Camel is known as ‘Ship of the desert’ as it has adapted its body to survive in the hot and dry climatic conditions of the desert. Camel has following adaptations to survive in desert:-
1. Its colour is brown like the colour of sand dune.
2. Its feet are flat and spongy to walk on sand.
3. Its nose is covered by nasal flaps so that sand may not enter nose.
4. It drinks a lot of water when available. This water spreads in the body tissue. This helps camel to survive without water for many days.
5. It store fat in the hump. This fat is consumed when fodder is not available to it.
6. It excretes very little water as urine and dung is also dry.
7. Its legs are long to leap high above hot sand.
2. Name various factors that affect the climate of a place, Explain any two of them.
Answer:- i) Sun, ii)Wind, iii)Water/Rain/Humidity, iv) Temperature, v) Distance from
sea/ocean.
(i) Sun: The sun is a prime source in determining the weather of a place.
(ii) Wind: Air in motion is called wind. If the wind blows it makes the weather cooler and if the air is still then it is comparatively hot.
3. Write various adaptations found in polar beer.
Answer:- Following are the adaptations found in polar bear:-
1. Its fur is white to camouflage snow -covered areas.
2. Long fur saves it from the extreme cold of the surroundings.
3. A layer of fat deposited under the skin helps it keep warm.
4. Its feet are designed to run on snow
