1) Write the names of any three window applications.
Ans :- Word pad, Notepad, and Paint are the three names of the window applications.
2) Write the names of any three Icons
Ans :- My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Network are the three names of the icons.
3) Write the names of components of a Desktop
Ans :- Icons, Wallpapers, and Taskbar are the components of the Desktop.
4) What is a Desktop
Ans :- When we start/turn on the computer, we see the first screen that is shown on our Monitor screen is called as Desktop. Desktop helps the user to start any programs or do any kind of work in the computer.

1) What is Operating System? Explain different types of Operating Systems
Ans :- An operating system is a program which acts as an interface/link between a user and the (hardwares) computer resources and it helps to controls all parts of the computer system. There are different operating systems created for different type of computing devices. As per the need or requirement, the designing of operating system can be done. The operating system that is used in computer cannot be operated in the cell phone/android phone. Windows operating system, Machintosh , Linux, Unix, Android OS, Symbian etc are the examples of popular operating system that is been used nowadays.
- Windows :- In the mid of 1980 ‘s, Windows operating system was created by Microsoft. There have been many different versions of Windows, but the most recent versions are Windows 10 (2015), Windows 8 (2012), Windows 7 (2009) and Windows Vista (2007). Windows comes pre-loaded on most all new PC’s. Hence it is the most popular and used operating system in the world. This is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) operating System. It is much easier for the user to access this type of operating system. When we make a click on any of the program of the operating system, the program gets open into the frame like a window. Hence it is named as Windows.
- DOS :- DOS stands for Disk Operating System that is also been designed or created by Microsoft. It is one of the oldest operating system and provides CUI (Character User Interface) for the smooth working on the computer system. When the computer was not much so powerful, that time such type of DOS was been used. When the computer system had the problems like low computer memory or the hardware having low speed, DOS was been made used. As this operating system had the CUI, it was very difficult to operate.
- Android :- This operating system was been developed by the GOOGLE company and is been used on the hand held and touchscreen devices like cell phones, Tablets etc. The interface on the devices can be used by fingers common movements/motions like pinching, tapping, sliding etc. Nowadays you may find such type of operating system on many devices like cars, television, wrist watches etc. Different types of devices have different types of interfaces.
2) What is a Taskbar? Explain the functions of its parts.
Ans :- This is a horizontal bar which is been located at the bottom of the screen. This bar can easily identified or recognised by the date and time which is being displayed in the bottom at the right hand side of the taskbar which is called as Notification Area. When we work in other applications or programs, we can see this bar at the bottom of the screen. Firstly Windows 95 introduced the taskbar and then windows other versions. The function of the taskbar parts are as follows :-
- Start button :- We can see this item first on the taskbar. After making a click on Start button, we can open applications or programs. The start button is been highlighted or indicated by the Windows icon.
- Quick launch bar :- By making use of this option on the task near to the start button, it is easier to reopen the application or program without finding/locating them from the Start menu.
- System Tray :- You may find the System tray at the right hand side of the taskbar. This may contain the very small icons like printer, fax, modem, volume etc.
- Notification area :- In this are you may different types of notifications and devices status. It is sued to show the icons of system and programs features but cant be seen on the desktop.
- Clock :- You may see this item at the end of the taskbar. It shows the current date and time. You can also reset or change the date and time by making a click on it. For making a change in the systems date and time, there is a need of the Administrations permission.
- Active Programs :- This area on the task bar is located in between the quick access bar and System Tray area. In this area, we may see the active programs to be appearing in the form of icons, which is easy for the user to navigate again back.
3) What do you mean by Icons? Explain any three Desktop Icons.
Ans:- Icons are the small pictures that you may see on your desktop screen. When we make a double click on the icon, which will help the user to open a particular application or program. On your computer desktop screen, you may notice many icons , some of them are explained below :-
a) My Computer :- We can see and access all the HDD drives , and other removable media devices etc that is been attached to the computer. To open and access all the items, just we need to make a double click on My Computer ——- A new window appears ——– double click on the items like files/folders or on the removable devices etc.
b) Network :- As this icon is been named as Network, which means if any LAN (Local Area Network) is been connected to the computer, then we can access it. This icon also helps the user to share the data and other resources. You can also get accessed to computers which are connected to it.
c) Recycle Bin :- It is similar to the garbage box/dustbin we have in our home, we make use of it to throw the unnecessary items into it. Here we may get the files or folders, programs, that we don’t want anymore in our computer or of no use, the we delete them or remove them from the original place they are been saved in the computer. The files or folders which gets deleted and are directly been moved to the Recycle Bin gets are not permanently deleted, they are temporary deleted. Then moment you go to the Recycle Bin and makes a deletion any particular file/folder, i.e means that particular file/folder is permanently deleted from the computer. If you have accidentally/mistakenly deleted any file/folder/program and is moved to the Recycle Bin, and we want it back in our computer, then we can restore it back again it in our computer from the Recycle Bin.
d) User’s files :- You can gain the access the location of many user files such as My Pictures, My Documents , Desktop, My Videos etc. this the name of currently running user. In the icon showing here, “School” user name is currently login.
4) Explain the different options of shutting down a Computer System.
Ans :- The different options of shutting down a Computer System is as followed :-
- Sleep :- When we keep our computer on this Sleep mode means, the monitor screen of the computer is turned off temporary, which means that the data remains secured. When the computer is in Sleep mode, the power remains on and CPU Red Color LED starts blinking. To start the computer again from the Sleep mode, the user needs to press the power button.
- Shut Down :- When the full work on the computer is completed, we make use/click on this Shut Down button. There is no possibility of the power to be remained on, when it is in Shut Down mode. While the computer gets shut down, it takes time (depending on the currently active/opened files, programs or any applications), mean while we have to wait for the computer to get properly shut down. Once the computer is completely shut down, the user is free to turn of the power switch from the power supply switch board.
- Log Off :- As there is possibility of other users, in the users need to create the accounts, and while using the computer, the user must login to his on user account. It he wishes too, then the user cannot can’t make a login to the other user’s account, as if it is protected by the password which is been applied by that particular user. Hence, it is used for keeping the user account’s and other user’s data in the computer secured. If the one user’s work is been completed, and wants the other user to access/makes use of the computer, then the first person is required to exit his user account by clicking on log off button and the computer is free for the other user to user the computer by selecting or entering the details of his user account.
- Restart :- In the Power menu, it is much possible for the user to install or update any program into the computer. When any new device (hardware) or any program is been updated, the computer sometimes shows the message of Restart of computer with options as Restart Now or Restart later. Once the user click on the Restart now button, the computer gets turned on automatically and when the user clicks on the Restart later button, the computer gets turned on afterwards.
