Pronoun for Class 1 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9, 10 Students

A pronoun in a sentence is a word use in the place of a noun to avoid the repetition of noun which is already mentioned or used.

Examples: – Astha is a good dancer. She learnt dance from her dance teacher in school.

Here, she and her are pronoun because these words are used instead of noun.

Types of pronoun

1.) Personal pronoun

A personal pronoun refers to one or more persons mainly associate with a particular person.

(i) First person: – It is the person who is speaking about himself/herself. It has two kinds:

(a) If it’s singular then “I” will be used and (b) if it’s plural then “we” will be used.

Examples: –

1.) I am going to Nashik tomorrow.

Here, “I” is used, so it is a personal pronoun.

2.) These shoes are mine.

Here, “mine” is used so, it is a personal noun.

3.) We won today.

Here, “we” is used so, it is a personal noun.

(ii) Second person: – it is the person who is listening and to whom the first person is telling.

Examples: –

  1. Keep secrets to yourself.

Here, “yourself” is used, so it is a personal pronoun.

  1. Keep this change with you.

Here, “you” is used to it is a personal pronoun.

  1. I love your thoughts and ideas.

Here, “your” is used so, it is a personal noun

(iii) Third person: – it is the person whose name is mentioned in the conversation between two people in his her absence and is not present in the scene.

Examples: –

  1. She has my books.

Here, “she” is used so, it is a personal pronoun.

  1. They are looking at TajMahal.

Here, “they” is used so, it is a personal pronoun.

  1. I like what she is wearing.

Here, “she” is used so, it is a personal pronoun.

2.) Reflexive pronoun

Reflexive pronoun refers to be same person who is doing and action or it indicates back to the subject in the sentence.

Examples:-

  1. They will work by themselves.

Here, “themselves” is used so it’s a reflexive pronoun

  1. Nishi is looking herself in the mirror.

Here, “herself” is used so, it is a reflexive pronoun.

  1. Enjoy by yourself in the party.

Here, “yourself” is used so, it is reflexive pronoun

3.) Possessive pronoun

Possessive pronouns refer to the words which indicate a particular relation or a thing with a person, animal or thing owned by someone or somebody.

Examples: –

  1. It is their duty to complete the task in the given time.

Here, “their” is used so, it is possessive pronoun.

  1. This coat is his choice.

Here, “his” is used so, it is a possessive pronoun.

  1. It is my responsibility to cover mistakes made by me.

Here, “me” is used so it is a possessive pronoun.

4.) Demonstrative pronoun:-

Demonstrative pronouns refer to words which showcases some place person thing or animal.

Examples: –

  1. Neha brought this bag.

Here, “this” is used so, it is a demonstrative pronoun.

  1. Kajal these pens are mine.

Here, “these” is used so, it is a demonstrative pronoun.

  1. I am very bad at these games/sports.

Here, “these” is used so, it is a demonstrative Pronoun.

5.) Interrogative pronoun:-

Interrogative pronouns defer towards which is used to indicate questions or ask questions.

Examples: –

  1. Who is Pratibha?

Here, “who” is used so, it is a interrogative pronoun.

  1. Whose truck is this?

Here, “whose” is used so, it is a interrogative ppronoun.

  1. What do you do to solve your personal issues?

Here, “what” is used so, it is a interrogative pronoun.

6.) Distributive pronouns

Distributive pronouns refer to the words used where a particular thing or person is not mentioned.

Examples: –

  1. Each and every student should attend the online classes.

Here, “each” is used so, it is a distributive pronoun.

  1. Neha’s hair is neither curly nor straight.

Here, “neither” is used so, it is a distributive pronoun.

  1. Can anyone please check whether my name is visible or not?

Here, “none” is used so, it is a distributive pronoun.

7.) Relative pronouns

Relative pronouns refer to the words used where noun is mentioned already in the sentence whether it’s a place person or a thing.

Examples: –

  1. Naina knows the manager whose company she got placement.

Here, “she” is used so, it is a relative pronoun.

  1. The bed that was in the bedroom is broken.

Here, “that” is used so, it is a relative pronoun.

  1. I don’t know what to say when someone asks about my future goals.

Here, “what” is used so, it is a relative pronoun.

8.) Reciprocal pronouns

Reciprocal pronoun indicates two or more people connecting or they are in action of something simultaneously. We often use “one another” and “each other” to indicate reciprocal pronouns.

Examples: –

  1. Geeta and Sita give each other sarees when they met for the first time.

Here, “each other” is used so it is reciprocal pronoun.

  1. People in our company supports one another every time.

Here, “one other” is used so it is reciprocal pronoun.

  1. We should help each other in difficult times.

Here, “each other” is used so, it is reciprocal pronoun.

Conclusion

A pronoun is mainly related to words which are used instead of noun. Pronouns are of many types as we discussed above.
