Makar sankranti is often known as the ‘Kite festival or the festival of Harvest’ Makar sankranti is celebrated to honour the ‘Surya Devata’ or the sun god, which is a symbol of light and positivity. The festival has a deep significance of removing darkness and enlightening our lives. Sankranti is celebrated on the conversion of the sun from one constellation to another .
It is mostly celebrated on 14th or 15th of January. IT is a festival of harvest and farmer celebrate it with lot of happiness. In the northern parts of India Sankranti is celebrated as Lohri. This day marks the end of winter season. Flying Kite is regarded as a important tradition on that day .The bright sky looks beautiful with colourful Kites everywhere. People make sweets with jiggery and sesame and are distributed among friends and family.
