1.) State any two conditions essential for good health.
Ans. The two important conditions for health in humans are the social environment and the physical environment of the surrounding.
2.) State any two conditions essential for being free of disease.
Ans. The two conditions for being disease free is consuming a well-balanced diet to develop good immune system. Also living in a hygienic surrounding is essential part of being disease free.
3.) Are the answers to the above questions necessarily the same or different? Why?
Ans. The answers to both the questions can be different because becoming disease free doesn’t necessarily mean being healthy. Good health is the complete wellbeing of the body i.e a person should be socially, mentally and physically fit.
4.) List any three reasons why you would think that you are sick and ought to see a doctor. If only one of these symptoms were present, would you still go to the doctor? Why or why not?
Ans. If a person is suffering from fever, vomiting, Diarrhoea, headache, body pain, cough and cold etc. are all indications of being sick. If these symptoms persist for a long duration of time, then one needs to visit the doctor.
5.) In which of the following case do you think the long-term effects on your health are likely to be most unpleasant? if you get jaundice, if you get lice. if you get acne. Why?
Ans. Out of the three conditions, jaundice is a chronic disease which will persist for a long period of time and is likely to be the most unpleasant.
6.) Why are we normally advised to take bland and nourishing food when we are sick?
Ans. Whenever a person falls sick, the normal body functions are affected. It is advised to consume nourishing food when sick as it helps in digestion and absorption of nutrients. This will provide the body with energy and help develop immunity to combat the infection.
7.) What are the different means by which infectious diseases are spread?
Ans. Infectious diseases are also called communicable diseases as they spread quickly. The means of spreading a disease can be air (example: common cold), water (example cholera), sexual contact (example: syphilis) or vectors (example mosquitos which spreads malaria). Apart from this physical contact with the affected individual can also spread the disease.
8.) What precautions can you take in your school to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases?
Ans. Students should take the following precautions in school to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases:
1.) One should cover nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing.
2.) Avoid coming in contact with students if one is infected from communicable disease like chicken pox etc.
3.) Drink clean and safe water.
4.) Include healthy meals in mid-day meal programs.
5.) One should also maintain clean and hygienic environment in school
9.) What is immunization?
Ans. This is a method of helping the developing immunity by administration of vaccines in healthy individuals.
10.) What are the immunization programs available at the nearest health center in your locality? Which of these diseases are the major health problems in your area?
Ans. Many immunization programs are available in health centers such as DPT vaccine for diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus, MMR immunizing against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), polio vaccine, tetanus vaccine etc. The major health problem in my area is dengue and typhoid.

(a) Think of one change you could make in your habits in order to avoid any of/most of the above illnesses.
(b) Think of one change you would wish for in your surroundings in order to avoid any of/most of the above illnesses.
Ans. Last year I fell ill two times. I suffered from cough, cold and then dengue fever.
a) to avoid getting cough and cold I would wash my hands with soap and avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
b) To avoid disease like dengue the surrounding environment should be kept clean. Do not let stagnant water to collect in bins, tires etc. as they are breeding grounds for vectors.
1.) A doctor/nurse/health-worker is exposed to more sick people than others in the community. Find out how she/he avoids getting sick herself/himself.
Ans. It is important that doctor/nurse/health-worker do not acquire any disease. To do so following measures can be adapted:
A) Wear masks and gloves
B) Drink clean and purified water.
C) Consuming healthy balanced diet.
D) The most important thing is to maintain hygienic condition around them.
2.) Conduct a survey in your neighborhood to find out what the three most common diseases are, suggest three steps that could be taken by your local authorities to bring down the incidence of these diseases.
Ans. The most common diseases in my area include cough and cold, Diarrhoea and dengue.
The steps that could be taken by your local authorities to bring down the incidence of these diseases.
1.) By suppling clean, uncontaminated drinking water to cities and villages
2.) Maintaing a clean sanatory conditions by placing dustbins in public places
3.) Making people aware of importance of vaccination programs and maintaining good hygienic conditions.
4.) Local authorities can also send vehicles to collect waste or garbage in their area.
4.) A baby is not able to tell her/his caretakers that she/he is sick. What would help us to find out
(a) that the baby is sick? (b) what is the sickness?
Ans. a) There can be changes like no proper food intake by the baby. The babies may have fever or my cry due to discomfort. B.) the nature of sickness will dependent on the symptoms observed in the babies like development of fever, cough, Diarrhoea. For finding out the sickness one needs to keep the baby in constant observation and contact a doctor in case discomfort to the baby
5.) Under which of the following conditions is a person most likely to fall sick?
(a) when she is recovering from malaria.
(b) when she has recovered from malaria and is taking care of someone suffering from chicken-pox.
(c) when she is on a four-day fast after recovering from malaria and is taking care of someone suffering from chicken-pox. Why?
Ans. The person is most likely to fall sick when she is on a four-day fast after recovering from malaria and is taking care of someone suffering from chicken-pox. A person needs to consume a well-balanced diet to develop immunity and fight infection. A four day fast while still recovering from malaria will lead to weakness. The immune system may not be able to fight the chickenpox virus in this stage when she is taking care of a person suffering from chicken pox.
6.) Under which of the following conditions are you most likely to fall sick?
(a) when you are taking examinations.(b) when you have travelled by bus and train for two days.
(c) when your friend is suffering from measles. Why?
Ans. a person is most likely to fall sick when you come in contact with a friend suffering from measles as measles is a contagious communicable infection. It can spread from one person to another by means of physical contact.
