CHAPTER: – 7
(CONSERVATION OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS)
Exercise: –
1) Fill in the blanks.
(a) A place where animals are protected in their natural habitat is called ___wildlife sanctuary___.
Explanation- (Wildlife sanctuary is the natural habitat of different wild animal and plant)
(b) Species found only in a particular area is known as__endemic species___ .
Explanation- ( Endemic specie’s always present in a specific area)
(c) Migratory birds fly to far away places because of____climatic_____ changes.
Explanation- (As a result, we see that birds from Siberia goes to the other places in winter)
2) Differentiate between the following.
(a) Wildlife sanctuary and biosphere reserve.
Ans: –
Wildlife sanctuary |
Biosphere reserve |
For the protection wild animal | For the preservation of the natural biodiversity in a particular area. |
Different living animal are kept. | There is also various species grown up naturally. |
Itallows for tourist sometimes | It is a restricted area. |
(b) Zoo and wildlife sanctuary.
Ans: –
Zoo |
Wildlife sanctuary |
Placed in locality area. | In a forest where animal is protected. |
Always available for visiting. | It is not as like the zoo it has some restrictions. |
It is not a natural habitat. | It is a natural habitat. |
(c) Endangered and extinct species.
Ans: –
Endangered |
Extinct |
The animal of plants presents in earth or in a region in limited. | The animal or plant species which presence finished today’s period. |
Present in critical vulnerable situation. | These are only available in documentary not in environment |
(d) Flora and fauna.
Ans: –
Flora |
Fauna |
Plant species which present in specific number in a particular area. | Animal which presents in distinct number in an area. |
Example: – Sal in a particular area like in Himalayas. | Example: – Cheetah in particular area like in Africa |
3)Discuss the effects of deforestation on the following.
(a) Wild animals
(b) Environment
(c) Villages (Rural areas)
(d) Cities (Urban areas)
(e) Earth
(f) The next generation.
Ans: – (a)The deforestation creates a huge impact in the wild animals as this animal is very much dependent on the resources like the herbivorous. In a forest the plant is the main sources of food of these herbivores.
(b)The ecological balance of the environment will be affected. The deforestation or the cutting of huge number of trees create a climate hazard in that area. The dependency of the trees for the other element of the environment will hampered.
(c)The rural people of the village are very much depending on the forest resources like for the wood cutting, hunting, honey bee’s etc. The forest is like guardianto them as this saves their livelihood.
(d)The air pollution in the urban areas affect most because of the deforestation. As in cities area the forest is also less number so there will be imbalance between the oxygen and carbon dioxide as well. The intoxicated air replaces the air components.
(e)The ecological imbalance will create because of the deforestation as the plant and animal are very much depends on each other in chain wise. The carnivorous are depends on the herbivores as well. And this herbivore also depends much on plant as well.
(f)As a result of the deforestation the next generation will face a serious climatic pollution which is unhealthy for the living of us. As well as various disease also be seen in future generations. The immunity power also be decrease in near future in them.
4)What will happen if.
(a) we go on cutting trees.
(b) the habitat of an animal is disturbed.
(c) the top layer of soil is exposed.
Ans: – (a)If we go on cutting of the trees the ecological balance of the environment would be hampered and in near future the time will be came where the availability of the animal would be extinct number.
(b)The animal is live in a peaceful way in a forest or a biodiversity or national park so when we disturbed then the rude activity we will face and there is a possibility that this animal would come to our locality also.
(c)The top layer of the soil helps in the production of the plants or food grain for our livelihood. If by any reason this layer may affect then there will be natural calamity throughout the areas.
5)Answer in brief.
(a) Why should we conserve biodiversity?
Ans: – Biodiversity is the place where the plant and animal are living freely and their number is also in distinct in number. And this species number also increasing in those places. So, if we conserve the area then the ecological balance would be there.
(b) Protected forests are also not completely safe for wild animals. Why?
Ans: – The awareness of the importance of the animals in today’s life came to the people of nearest places of some that area. As a result, we seen the pouching like phenomenon happened in the area which is the main reason behind this animal habitats.
(c) Some tribals depend on the jungle. How?
Ans: – The tribal people love their jungle where they spend whole of their life without connection of the outer world. They are very much depending on the forest the resources like wood, fruit, flowers, honey bee etc. In India in Western hat andnorth east region is a clear example of that.
(d) What are the causes and consequences of deforestation?
Ans: – The air pollution in the urban areas affect most because of the deforestation as in cities area the forest is also less number. The intoxicated air replaces the air components. The ecological balance of the environment would be affected in that situation as well.
(e) What is Red Data Book?
Ans: – The Red Data Book store the information of the different animal and plant which is in vulnerable situation. The species which has a probability of getting finished near future these details are kept. This step is taken by united nation body for the protection of the animal and plant specie’s.
(f) What do you understand by the term migration?
Ans: – The term migration means a population of the animal is dispersed from one places and tale a new shelter for their survival. So, when something others animal species stay in new place is known as migration.
6)In order to meet the ever-increasing demand in factories and for shelter, trees are being continually cut. Is it justified to cut trees for such projects? Discuss and prepare a brief report.
Ans: – The cutting of trees created a climatic vulnerable situation in an area where to much trees are cutting because of development like installation of new factories or rehabilitation or housing etc. This is not justified in any sense we should follow the sustainable development method in that area. By which there will be proper trees as well as the development also be seen. And including this a healthy society will be grown up.
7)How can you contribute to the maintenance of green wealth of your locality? Make a list of actions to be taken by you.
Ans: – The action of mine for the maintains of green wealth of our locality is
- Social awakening of planting trees.
- Work against deforestation.
- Spreading awareness of importance of trees. Etc.
8)
Explain how deforestation leads to reduced rainfall.
Ans: – The climatic vulnerability increases because of deforestation and as a result of that the timing of rainy season changes or high flooding situation is taking place in other are and one remain in drought situation. The cutting of trees creates imbalance situation in environment as a result large summer and short rainy season we are seeing.
10) Why should paper be saved? Prepare a list of ways by which you can save Paper.
Ans: – The paper is made from cutting of trees. As a regular basis there are million of copies of paper is being used which could be reduced by saving the unnecessary works. Which is also very important for the environment purpose.
The ways are
- Turns to digital.
- Finding way like reuse.
- Doesn’t use for unnecessary works.
