Working with the text

1.) When he felt the earthquake, do you think Ignesious immediately worried about a tsunami? Give reasons for your answer. Which sentence in the text tells you that the Ignesious family did not have any time to discuss and plan their course of action after the tsunami struck?

Answer: First Ignesious thought that it was an earthquake and took his television set off the table and kept it on the ground. He didn’t think that it was tsunami. He took safety measures required for an earthquake. When the tremors stopped, they saw the sea rising. The lines-In the chaos and confusion, two of his children caught hold of the hands of their mother’s father and mother’s brother, and rushed in the opposite direction clearly states the confusion and how they didn’t have time to take any action.

 

2.) Which words in the list below describe Sanjeev, in your opinion?

Answer:In my opinion Sanjiv is Heroic, selfless and brave.

3.) How are Meghna and Almas’s stories similar?

Answer: Meghna and Alma both were young girls who survived and faced the tough times. Meghna was swept away along with her parents but survived alone floating two days in the sea, holding on to a wooden door. Alma’s family too was swept away and she alone survived with the help of floating wood log. In both the cases the young girls showed their courage and faced the situations.

 

4.) What are the different ways in which Tilly’s parents could have reacted to her behaviour? What would you have done if you were in their place?

Answer: Tilly somehow sensed that something terrible is going to happen she became hysterical. This made her parents scared and sense that something worst is going to take place. Her parents understood her and took refuge. If I were in her parents’ place I too would have understood as a young girl would not do such things without reason.

 

5.) If Tilly’s award was to be shared, who do you think she should share it with— her parents or her geography teacher?

Answer: If Tilly’s award was to be shared,I think its deserving person would be her geography teacher because of her educational video and teachings Tilly was able to  tell her parents about the coming problem.

 

6.) What are the two different ideas about why so few animals were killed in the tsunami? Which idea do you find more believable?

Answer: It is believed that animals possess a sixth sense. Animals’ acute hearing capacity helps them to hear or feel earth’s vibration. In many cases it has been found the number of animals losing their lives is less than human beings due to their natural capacity of foreseeing some calamities.
