(1) What do you understand by the word ‘ government ‘ ? List five ways in which you think government affects your daily life ?

Answer:

Government is a group of people who are working together as a community or a unit and they try to serve for a kind of public purposes or have some public policies formulations that they do.

There are some various ways in which the government affects on our daily life, such as:

  • By taking the decisions about working on a road or creating a new road.
  • By checking the price in the market such as , price fluctuation for the every day’s commodities like vegetables and so on.
  • By addressing the various social issues.
  • By providing the reservation to the minorities , SC , STs or a specific cast or a specific group of people.
  • By running over the various basic services such as , railway services , postal services and so on.

(2) Why do you think the government needs to make rules for everyone in the form of laws?

Answer:

Government needs to make the rules for everyone in the form of laws , because this is the only way that it can function and without the laws it’s power to make the decisions is useless.

(3) Name two essential features of a democratic government.

Answer:

India is a predominantly a democratic government. It is a government of the people for the people by the people . People have the power to elect the leaders . Leaders are answerable to the people from whom they are elected . People rules themselves by participating . So they feel that they are the part of the democratic setup.

(4) What was the suffrage movement ? What did it accomplish?

Answer:

During the first world war the women from all over Europe , USA and the poor have had to fight for their participation in the governments . This movement is known as the ‘Suffrage Movement ‘ . The word suffrage is usually referred to right to vote.

During this time ,many women were organized and managed the various types of the works . The people saw them doing such types of works and they began to wonder that  they should not create such  unfair stereotypes about the women  . This is why the women started to be seen as being equally capable of making the decisions as men.  After fighting for their rights finally they got the right to vote.

(5) Gandhiji strongly believed that every adult in India should be given the right to vote . However , a few people don’t share his views . They feel that illiterate people , who are mainly poor , should not be given the right to vote . What do you think ? Do you think this would be a form of discrimination ? Give five points to support your view and share these with the class .

Answer:

Yes , it would be a form of descrimination.

(1) All the adults have the right to vote . Though they are poor , illiterate , male or female yet it doesn’t matter .

(2) All the citizens of the country has the right to equality .

(3) Elected government works for all the citizens of the country not just for a particular individual.

(4) A small minority doesn’t have the right to determine the fate of the majority .

(5) There is no descrimination can take place in the democracy.
