Answer:-

Silver and gold both are lustrous metals. But silver on exposure to the air lose their shine and appears dull. This is due to the action of air and moisture on the silver metal. A reaction is carried out with the presence of air which turns the silver metal dull. But gold metal does not appears dull.

13) Mixtures of red chilli powder in water, butter in water, petrol in water, and honey in water were given Radha, Sudha, Sofia , and Raveena , respectively. Whose mixture is in solution form?

Answer:-

Many substances completely dissolved in water and these are known as soluble substances these forms a solution.  Substances which does not dissolved in water thoroughly  are known as Non- soluble or insoluble  substances these does not form solution.

Here in the given question,

The mixture of Raveena which is honey in water is formed a solution. Honey completely mixed in the water.

While the other given samples does not dissolve in water therefore these are not solutions.

14) On a bright sunny day, Shikha was playing hide and seek with her brother. She did herself behind a glass door. Do you think her brother will be able to locate her. If yes, why? If no, why not?

Answer:-

Yes, Shikha can be located by her brother. Because she was hidden on the back side of glass door on a bright sunny day, due to which the glass becomes translucent.  Thus not clearly but, objects can be seen from translucent glass. Thus Shikha can also be seen.

15) Take a small cotton ball and place it in a tumbler/ bowl filled with water. Observe it for at least  10 minutes. Will it float or sink in water and why?

Answer:- The cotton ball firstly will float on water. Because cotton fibre is lighter than the water. It will float on water and it will absorbs water below it. As soon as it completely absorbed the water it will sink down in the water.

Answer:-

The materials which can compressed or stretched easily these are known as softmaterials. While the materials which does not easily compressed these are hard materials.

Materials have different types of properties which decides the Different type of material.

Lustre :-

Materials which have shine or lustre . These types of materials are mainly metals. Iron nail and aluminium are metals. They have shine and lustre.

Hardnessand softness:-

The materials which does not easily compressed these are hard materials. The materials which compressed easily are called as soft materials.

Chalk , candle, wood  , iron nail, are hard materials. While cotton is soft materials.

Also different materials can be identified on the basic of roughness and smoothness property .

23) Why do you think oxygen dissolved in water is important for the survival of aquatic animals and plants?

Answer:-

Aquatic animals survive only under the water. They cannotcome to the open air for the oxygen but the every animals body needs oxygen for survival. Aquatic plants also needs oxygen as nutrients. Therefore they get oxygen which is dissolved in the water. Thus the oxygen dissolved in the water is necessary for the aquatic animals and also for plants.

24) Differentiate among opaque, translucent and transparent materials , giving one example of each.

Answer:-

The objects which are not at all seen through the material these materials are opaque .

For example :- wooden board, wooden door.

The objects which seen through the material but not clearly, these materials are known as translucent material.

For example:- oily paper.

The objects which are clearly seen through the material are known as transparent materials.

For example:- hard lens, goggles glasses.
