  • Very Short Answer Questions

7) Name of the type of joint of your hand which help you to grasp a badminton racket.

Answer:-  “Hinge joint”of hand help to grasp the objects like a badminton racket.

8) What would have happened if our backbone was made of one single bone?

Answer:-

The backbone is made up of many small bones known as vertebrae. There are total 33 vertebrae which combines to make long backbone. The rib cage is also joined to these bones. These small vertebrae helps us to bend from waist of our body. If the backbone is made up of only one single bone then our body could not get bend from our waist.

Answer:- upper jaw with skull is the fixed joint of our body.

D) Help in the movement of body by construction and relaxation.

Answer:- two sets of muscles help in the movement by alternate contraction and relaxation.

E) Bones that join with chest bone at one end and to the backbone at the other end.

Answer:- Rib are jointed to the chest bones and backbone .

F) Framework of bones which gives shape to our body.

Answer:- skeleton made up of bones and Cartilage makes the framework of the body and gives shape.

13) Boojho fell off a tree and hurt his ankle. On examination the doctor confirmed that the ankle was fractured. How was it detected?

Answer:- Doctor must be examined and Observed the swelling on the ankle. He must be advised to take an X-ray of the ankle. X-ray is the is photograph in which we can see the bones and inner organs of the body. Fractured bone could be easily observed in the taken X- ray by the doctor. And thus it confirmed that the bone is injured or fractured.

14) Bones are hard structures and cannot be bent.  But, we can still bend our elbow, knee, etc. How is this possible?

Answer:-

Bones are hard and single bone cannot be bend. But if two or more bones are joined to each other by a joint known as hinge joint then it bends. Hinge joint are present between the two bones of elbow and knees and with the help of muscles it allow them to bend and move easily.

15) Which type of movement would have been possible if

a) Our elbow had a fixed joint.

Answer:- if our elbow had a fixed joint, then we will not be able to fold or bend our arms. Thus elbow has hinge joint which allow it to bend easily.

b) We were to have a ball and socket joint between our neck and head.

Answer:-  neck and head had pivotal joint with the help of which we can move our head near about 180° to 200° . But if we had ball and socket joint between head and neck then we could move our head 360°.

18) How is the skeleton of a bird well – suited for flying?

Answer:-

Birds can fly in the sky, they can walk on the ground, some of them can swim also. Most of the birds can fly because their body is well suitable for flying.

Birds have bones which are hollow and light in structure.

Wings are made up of modified bony forelimbs, which is very much important for the flying of birds.

Hind limbs are made for walking and perching .

Shoulder bones of birds are strong.

Their breast bones are modified for the holding muscles at the time of flight. It is used to move wings up and down.

19) In fig. 8.2 there are two snakes of the same size slithering on sand, can you identify which of them would move faster and why?

Answer:-

Snakes have a longer backbone and many thin muscles connected to it. These muscles are interconnected to the backbone, skin and ribs of snake.
Thus the body of snake can easily curve into many loops. Each loop of the snake push it in forward direction. As much as the loop of that snakes have the snake will move that much faster. Larger the loops in number faster the motion. As shown in figure. Snake A has more loops than snake B therefore snake A will move faster than snake B.
