What do the following phrases mean to you? Discuss in class.

 (i) Humid shadows:

Answer:

Humid means full of moisture and “Humid shadows” refer to the moisture laden clouds which caste shadow on the earth.

(ii) Starry spheres

Answer:

“Starry spheres” refer to the sky at night time which is full of stars.

(iii) What a bliss:

Answer:

The poet considers lying on the bed in his room and listening to the sound made by raindrops falling on the roof as a blessing.

 (iv) a thousand dreamy fancies into busy being start

Answer:

Means busy people start having varied sweet dreams.

Answer:

“Woof” means thread waver across the room. Thousand memories of the past are coming back into the dream.

Answer:

The poet wanted to lie on the bed and listen the sound of the falling raindrops on the roof of his house.

(3) What is the single major memory that comes to the poet? Who are the “darling dreamers” he refers to?

Answer:

The memory of his mother is the single major memory that came to the poet.

“Darling dreamers” refer to the poet and his siblings. When they were children they used to love by poets mother and they used to sleep and dream together .They all were favorite to his mother so he considers themselves “Darling”.

Answer:

No, now the poet is not a child.

No, his mother is dead.
