Answer:- (1) Yes, I agreed that modern farming method require more inputs such as HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc used in forming.
(2) Some of farm machinery, like tractor and threshers, which made ploughing and harvesting faster.
(3) How did the spread of electricity help farmers in Palampur?
Answer:
(1) Palampur is a well developed system of irrigation. Electricity came early to Palampur. Its major impact was to transform the system of irrigation. Farmers used Persian wheels to draw water from the well and irrigated small fields.
(2) People of Palampur saw that the electric-run tube wells could irrigated much large area of land more effectively.
(4) Is it important to increase the area under irrigation? Why?
Answer:
(1) Yes, it is important to increase the area under irrigation because modern farming methods gives higher yield and the other way of increasing production from the same land is by multiple cropping.

Answer:
The minimum wages for a farm labourer set by the government is Rs. 500 per day, but Dala gets only RS. 160 because of heavy competition for work among the farm labourers in Palampur, so people agree to work for lower wages.
(7) In your region, that to two labourers choose either farm labourers or labourers working at construction sites. What wage do they get? Are they paid in cash or kind? Do they get work regularly? Are they in debt?
Answer:
As per my survey for labourers. They are worked at construction sites.
(i) They get Rs. 360 per day as wage.
(2) They are paid in cash
(3) They do not get work in rainy season.
(4) Yes, they are suffering from debt.
(8) What are the different ways of increasing production on the same piece of land? Use example to explain.
Answer:
The different ways of increasing production on the same piece of lands are follows:-
(1) The Production of land increase by multiple cropping and using modern farming methods. Increasing production on a given piece of land. And for higher yield modern farming method are used.
(2) Higher yields were possible from a combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizer, pesticides etc.
(3) Example, in Palampur the yield of wheat grown from the traditional varieties was 1300 kg. With HYV seeds, the yield went up to 3200 kg per hectare.
(9) Describe the work of a farmer of a with 1 hectare of land.
Answer:
(1) A farmer with 1 hectare of land which is very small quaintly of land and it know as subsistence farmer or small farmer
(2) For cultivation, subsistence farmer borrow money at an very high interests, and also work on field as a farm labourers during the harvest season.
(10) How do the medium and large farms obtain capital for farming? How is it different from the small farmers?
Answer:
(1) Most small farmers have to borrow money to arrange for the capital.
(2) In contrast to the small farmers, the medium and large farmers have their own saving from farming. Thus they are able to arrange for the capital.
(11) On what terms did Savita get a land from Tajpal Singh? Would Savita’s condition be different if she could get a land from the bank at a low rate of interest?
Answer:
(1) Savita get a land from Tajpal Singh at an interest rate of 24 per cent for four months. She also promise to work on his field as a farm labourer during harvest season at Rs 100 per day, this wage is quite low.
(2) Yes Savita’s condition be different if she could get a land from the bank at a low rate interest, she doesn’t work in low wage.
(13) What are the non-farm production activities taking place in your region? Make a short list.
Answer:
The non-farm production activities are—
(1) Dairy is a common activity in many families in our region.
(2) People is used to open their own stationeries or grocery shop other than farm.
(3) Street shop is also prefer by people of my region.
(14) What can be done so that more no-farm production activities can be started in village?
Answer:
(1) Government should start various scheme in which people get motivated to start their own business.
(2) Government should provide a land at a low interest such that more people get influence for business.
