Q1. Classify the following fibres as natural or synthetic:

Ans- Natural fibres- cotton, wool, silk, jute.

Synthetic fibres- nylon and polyester.

Q2. State whether the following statements are true or false:-

1.) Yarn if made from fibres – true.

2.) Spinning is a process of making fibres – false.

3.) Jute is outer covering of coconut – false.

4.) The process of removing seed from cotton is called ginning – true.

5.) Weaving of yarn makes a piece of fibre – true.

6.) Silk fibre is obtained form a stem of a plant – false.

7.) Polyester is natural fibre – false.

Q3. Fill in the blanks:-

1.) Plant fibres are obtained from_cotton and_jute.

2.) Animal fibres are _wool and_silk.

Q4. From which parts of plant cotton and jute are obtained?

Ans- Cotton is obtained from the cotton balls which are like flowers to the plants and jute is obtained by stems of plants. The jute plant is normally harvested when it is at flowering stage.

Q6. Explain the process of making yarn from fibre.

Ans- The process of making yarn from fibre is called as spinning. The process involves some procedure for making yarn. First the fibres are drawn from the mass of cotton wool and they are twisted. By this the yarn is formed by bringing together the mass of cotton wool which is twisted. For spinning a simple device is used it is known as takli, this is a hand spindle. Another device used is chakra which is operated by another hand, this device is popularized by Mahatma Gandhi. Spinning is done by these two popular devices by which yarn is made from fibre. The spinning on large scale is done by various machines.

More Questions and Answers:

Q1. Explain the term fibres? Write the types of fibres?

Ans- The thin strands of thread which are made up of still thinner strand is called as fibres. Fibres are used to make the clothes. Fibres are found in two types, one is synthetic fibres and other is natural fibres. Synthetic fibres are the fibres which are made of chemical substances and which are not from plant and animal sources. Polyester, nylon and acrylic are the synthetic fibres. Natural fibres are the fibres found from plant and animals sources. The natural fibres are cotton, silk, jute ,wool. Cotton and jute are found from plant and silk and wool are found from animals.

Q2. Explain plant fibres in detail?

Ans- The fibres which are found from plants are natural fibres. These fibres are used in making clothes. Plant fibres are cotton and jute. These are made as fibres by a particular process. Cotton is obtained in field of cotton plant. The fruits of cotton are grown in the fields, this cotton is observed after maturing the cotton balls burst and the cotton is seen. The seeds are covered by fibres, this fibres are separated from seeds by combing this is called as ginning. Jute is another fibre obtained from the stem of jute plant. This jute is cultivated in rainy season, this jute is harvested mainly when it is at  lowering stage.

The stems are immersed in water for few days of the harvesting plant. The stem rots and fibres of jute are separated by hands.

Q3. Define the terms:-

1.) Spinning: The process in which the yarn is made from fibres is called as spinning.

2.) Ginning: The process in which the fibres areseparated from seeds with comb is called as ginning.

3.) Knitting: The process in which one yarn is used to make a fabric is called as knitting.

4.) Weaving: The process in which two sets of yarn are arrange to make a fabric is called as weaving.

5.) Natural fibres: The fibres obtained from plants and animals are called as natural fibres.

6.) Synthetic fibres: The fibres which are obtained by chemical substances and there is no plants and animal sources are called as synthetic fibres.

Q4. How yarn is turned into fibre?

Ans- There are two main processes for making yarn into fibre. The processes are weaving and knitting which are done to turn the yarn into fibre. Weaving is the process in which the two sets of yarn are arranged together to make a fabric. The two sets of yarn are used or make fabric or they are woven to make fabric. Like paper strips the yarns are woven but the yarns are runner then paper strips. There are looms by which the weaving is done, these looms are of both types either operated by hand or power looms are also available. Knitting is the process the single yarn is used to make fabric. The sweaters are made by knitting. In this the single yarn gets continuously pulled out to make a fabric, by knitting socks, sweaters and many other clothing materials are made. This process is done by hands and also machines are used for this. Knitting and weaving both are used to make variety of clothing materials.

Q5. Explain in the form of flowchart about whole process of making fabric.
