NCERT Class 6 Mathematics Twelfth Chapter Ratio And Proportion Exercise 12.2 Solution

NCERT Class 6 Mathematics Twelfth Chapter Ratio And Proportion Exercise 12.2 Solution

EXERCISE 12.2

(1) Determine if the following are in proportion.

(a) 15, 45, 40, 120

Solution: We know, 1st term × 4th term = 2nd term × 3rd term

So, 15 × 120 = 45 × 40

Or, 1800 = 1800

Ans: Yes

(b) 33, 121, 9, 96

Solution: 33 × 96 = 121 × 9

Or, 3168 = 1089

Ans: No

(c) 24, 28, 36, 48

Solution: 24 × 48 = 28 × 36

Or, 1152 = 1008

Ans: No

(d) 32, 48, 70, 210

Solution: 32 × 210 = 48 × 70

Or, 6720 = 3360

Ans: No

(e) 4, 6, 8, 12

Solution: 4 × 12 = 6 × 8

Or, 48 = 48

Ans: Yes

(f) 33, 44, 75, 100

Solution: 33 × 100 = 44 × 75

Or, 3300 = 3300

Ans: Yes

(2) Write True (T) or False (F) against each of the following statements:

(a) 16 : 24 :: 20 : 30

Solution: We know, 1st term × 4th term = 2nd term × 3rd term

So, 16 × 30 = 24 × 20

Or, 480 = 480

Ans: True

(b) 21: 6 :: 35 : 10

Solution: 21 × 10 = 6 × 35

Or, 210 = 210

Ans: True

(c) 12 : 18 :: 28 : 12

Solution: 12 × 12 = 18 × 28

Or, 144 = 504

Ans: False

(d) 8 : 9 :: 24 : 27

Solution: 8 × 27 = 9 × 24

Or, 216 = 216

Ans: True

(e) 5.2 : 3.9 :: 3 : 4

Solution: 5.2 × 4 = 3.9 × 3

Or, 20.8 = 11.7

Ans: False

(f) 0.9 : 0.36 :: 10 : 4

Solution: 0.9 × 4 = 0.36 × 10

Or, 3.6 = 3.6

Ans: True

(3) Are the following statements true?

(a) 40 persons : 200 persons = RS 15 : Rs 75

Solution: We know, 1st term × 4th term = 2nd term × 3rd term

So, 40 × 75 = 200 × 15

Or, 3000 = 3000

Ans: True

(b) 7.5 litres : 15 litres = 5 kg : 10 kg

Solution: 7.5 × 10 = 15 × 5

Or, 75 = 75

Ans: True

(c) 99 kg : 45 kg = Rs 44 : Rs 20

Solution: 99 × 20 = 45 × 44

Or, 1980 = 1980

Ans: True

(d) 32 m : 64 m = 6 sec : 12 sec

Solution: 32 × 12 = 64 × 6

Or, 384 = 384

Ans: True

(e) 45 km : 60 km = 12 hours : 15 hours

Solution: 45 × 15 = 60 × 12

Or, 675 = 720

Ans: False

(4) Determine if the following ratios form a proportion. Also, write the middle terms and extreme terms where the ratios form a proportion.

Or, 4000 = 4000

Yes, the terms are in a proportion.

Middle term is 1 m, Rs 40.

Extreme term is 25 cm, Rs 160.

(b)39 litres : 65 litres and 6 bottles : 10 bottles

Yes, the terms are in a proportion.

Middle term is 65 liter, 6 bottles.

Extreme term is 39 liter, 10 bottles.

(c) 2 kg : 80 kg and 25 g : 625 g

(d) 200 mL : 2.5 litre and Rs 4 : Rs 50

Solution: Here, 2.5 litre = 2500 mL

∴ 200 : 2500 : : 4 : 50
