13.) What is the nickname of the earth ?
Ans – blue planet
Short answer –
1.) Describe atmosphere?
Ans – The atmosphere is a layer of gas that envelops the world. This thin layer of air covers the entire planet and is a crucial component. It gives us what the air we breathe and shields us from the sun’s damaging rays. The height of the atmosphere is roughly 1,600 kilometres. Depending on its composition, temperature, and other characteristics, the atmosphere is separated into five levels. The troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere are the names of these layers, which start at the surface of the globe.
2.) What is the largest continent of the earth ?
Ans – The biggest continent is Asia. It encompasses nearly one-third of the planet’s total land area. In the Eastern Hemisphere, the continent is located. This continent contains the Cancer Tropic. On the western side, the Ural Mountains divide Asia from Europe. Eurasia (Europe + Asia) refers to the combined landmass of Europe and Asia.
3.) How is ocean is the major part of hydrosphere?
Ans – The hydrosphere is primarily composed of oceans. They’re all linked together.
Ocean waters are constantly moving. The waves, tides, and ocean currents are the three main movements of ocean waters. In order of their size, the five main oceans are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. The largest ocean is the Pacific. It covers one-third of the planet. The Pacific Ocean contains the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest spot on earth. The Pacific Ocean resembles a circle almost exactly. Australia and Asia North and South Americas surround it.
4.) what is the difference between north America and south America?
Ans – The third-largest continent in the planet is North America. The Isthmus of Panama, a remarkably small piece of territory, connects it to South America. The entire continent is located in the Western and Northern Hemispheres.
The Southern Hemisphere is where much of South America is located.
The Andes, the largest mountain range in the world, spans its entire length from north to south. The Amazon River is the largest river in the world.
Long answer –
1.) Briefly describe biosphere – the domain of life?
Ans – The biosphere is the constrained area where the air, water, and land meet. This zone is where the planet’s only life, which is unique, can be found. Numerous species of organisms exist, ranging in size from tiny microorganisms and bacteria to enormous animals. For survival, all living things, including humans, depend on one another and the biosphere. The plant kingdom and the animal kingdom can be used to classify the species in the biosphere. The three earthly spheres communicate with one another and influence one another in various ways. For instance, clearing land for agriculture or cutting down trees to meet our wood needs may cause the soil to be quickly removed from slopes. Earth’s surface may also shift as a result of natural disasters like earthquakes. Land may be submerged, as was the case with the recent tsunami, for instance. The Andaman and Nicobar islands had portions that were underwater. Waste discharge into lakes and rivers renders the water unfit for human consumption.
Additionally, it harms other types of life. The air is polluted by emissions from vehicles, thermal power plants, and industry. The gas carbon dioxide (CO2) is a crucial component of air. However, a rise in CO2 levels causes a rise in global temperatures. We refer to this as global warming. To preserve the harmony of nature between the lithosphere’s regions, it is therefore necessary to limit the use of earth’s resources.
2.) Describe all the seven major continents of the earth .
Ans – There are seven main tectonic plates. Large bodies of water separate these. Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, and Antarctica are the continents mentioned. The majority of the world’s land mass is located in the Northern Hemisphere.
The biggest continent is Asia. Asia is far larger than Europe. West of Asia is where the continent is located. Through it, the Arctic Circle is traversed. On three sides, water bodies encircle the area. Find it on a globe map by looking there. After Asia, Africa is the second-largest continent.
The continent almost exactly passes through the Equator, or 00 latitude. Africa occupies a sizable portion of the Northern Hemisphere. It is the only continent through which the Tropic of Cancer, the Equator, and the Tropic of Capricorn traverse. The third-largest continent in the planet is North America. The Isthmus of Panama, a remarkably small piece of territory, connects it to South America. The entire continent is located in the Western and Northern Hemispheres. The Southern Hemisphere is where much of South America is located. The Andes, the largest mountain range in the world, flows through it from north to south. The Amazon River is the largest river in the world. The smallest continent that is located wholly in the Southern Hemisphere is Australia. The oceans and seas encircle it on all sides. The term “island continent” is used. Huge continent Antarctica is located entirely in the Southern Hemisphere. Nearly in the middle of this continent is the South Pole. It is always covered in heavy ice sheets because it lies in the South Polar Region. There are no long-term human habitations.
3.) Describe hydrosphere .
Ans – The blue planet is a nickname for the earth. Over 71% of the world is covered in water, and only 29% is covered in land. Water in all of its forms makes up the hydrosphere. The hydrosphere is made up of all forms of water, including surface water in lakes, rivers, and seas, ice in glaciers, subsurface water, and water vapour in the atmosphere. The oceans contain more than 97% of the world’s water, which is too salty for human consumption. Only a very small amount of the remaining water is usable as fresh water for human consumption; the majority is hidden beneath the earth or in icesheets and glaciers. We consequently have a water deficit despite living on a “blue planet”.
4.) Briefly explain all the types of ocean ?
Ans – In order of their size, the five main oceans are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. The largest ocean is the Pacific. It covers one-third of the planet. The Pacific Ocean contains the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest spot on earth. The Pacific Ocean resembles a circle almost exactly. It is surrounded by North and South Americas, Australia, and Asia. The second-largest ocean in the world is the Atlantic Ocean. It has a “S” form. Europe and Africa border it on the east, while North and South Americas border it on the west. The Atlantic Ocean’s coastline is deeply indented. This irregular and indented coastline offers the perfect setting for natural ports and harbours. It is the busiest Ocean from a commercial standpoint. Only one ocean, the Indian Ocean, is named after a nation, namely India. The ocean is practically trapezoidal in shape. Asia, Africa, and Australia form its northern, western, and eastern borders, respectively. The Southern Ocean surrounds the Antarctic continent and stretches northward to a latitude of 60 degrees south.
The Arctic Ocean encircles the North Pole and is found within the Arctic Circle. It is connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Bering Strait, a confined area of shallow water. North American and Eurasian northern shores encircle it.
5.) Briefly explain the role of lithosphere?
Ans – The Lithosphere is the name given to the solid portion of the earth. It consists of the crustal rocks of the earth as well as the microscopic soil layers that are rich in nutrients needed by living things.
The surface of the world is divided into two primary sections. The immense land masses are referred to as continents, and the enormous amounts of water are referred to as ocean basins. The world’s oceans are all related to one another. Everywhere, the sea’s level stays constant. The sea level is used as the baseline for measuring land elevation. Mount Everest, the highest mountain summit, is located 8,848 metres above sea level. The Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean records the deepest depth at 11,022 metres.
